Unlike the free-to-play, mobile lawn defense simulator, Plants vs. Zombies 2, microtransactions aren't planned for the launch of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare.

In an interview with GameSpot, PopCap producer Brian Lindley stated that Garden Warfare won't have microtransactions "at launch," but noted that PopCap will watch in-game metrics and fan reaction to determine where to take the game next.

We can only guess as to what those plans may be, but hopefully they aren't comparable to the temporary "test" of charging to spawn new lawnmowers in PvZ2, as reported by GameSpot. [Image: EA]

That's Phil Spencer, one of Microsoft's top gaming executives. Sakaguchi, of course, is Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of Final Fantasy, now at Mistwalker, where he has released a few Xbox-exclusive JRPGs like Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. Hope Phil isn't just messing with us, because the Xbox One sure could use some JRPGs. (I've reached out to Microsoft to see if this is for real.)Read more...

Naughty Dog seemingly won everyone over last year (including Joystiq and the DICE Awards) with The Last of Us, its tale of survival in a clicker-ridden world. Its ending felt fairly conclusive, but in a recent discussion (which you should not explore if you're wary of spoilers for the game or DLC) on Reddit, a fan asked what the odds are for a future chance to visit The Last of Us' world once more.

"If you're asking about a sequel ... right now I'd say it's 50/50," Creative Director Neil Druckmann responded.

If that's not enough to rile people up, Game Director Bruce Straley teased in the same thread that the team is "working on the 3rd DLC drop for MP right now! ... and maybe something else ... we'll see." It's almost like they enjoy teasing fans!
Of course, if you missed your date with "Left Behind," the game's Valentines Day dose of narrative DLC, that's an immediate opportunity to spend more time with Ellie. [Image: Sony]

Madden NFL 25 brought back franchise relocation, allowing you to keep a club's name and look in its new city or pick from two or three new nickname and uniform options. And yeah, some of those designs weren't so great. The game's fake Twitter feed would even say so.Read more...

Coming from Tokyo-based games consultant Serkan Toto...

"I think that Sony will be able to capture some of the market that Nintendo isn't able to serve with the Wii U, but it will certainly be not all of it, but Nintendo is making it as easy for Sony as ever to capture some market share."

Coming from a WWE interview with Xavier Woods...

WWE.com: Your ring gear always tends to be among the flashiest on NXT. What inspires your designs?

Woods: I just really love sweet outfits! Bootsy Collins is a huge inspiration for me when it comes to my style. As for the actual pieces of the look, it’s extremely influenced by the things that I loved from my ’90s childhood. I always have "OVER 9000" on my tights because it is a reference from one of my favorite cartoons: “Dragon Ball Z.” My current set of gear was influenced by Sega and Sonic the Hedgehog. For my nerds out there that know the game extensively, there are seven chaos emeralds placed strategically through the gear. So pretty much video games and cartoons influence my wrestling gear. A hint for what’s coming up next: four brothers, four colors.

I grabbed a couple pics of Xavier's ring gear, where you can see a couple of the chaos emeralds, as well as the old-school SEGA-style lettering. Thanks to Matt for the heads up!
