This sounds like a pretty fishy rumor to me, but discussion about it is flying around left and right. Make of it what you will, but be sure to know that this is in no way confirmed at this time.

Today, Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed® V, the next major release in the award winning, best-selling franchise. Assassin’s Creed V serves as the introduction to an all new hero, setting and gameplay mechanics as the Assassin’s Creed franchise hits a new era.

Assassin’s Creed V has been in the development cycle for almost three years, at Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Toronto with development support from Ubisoft studios at Annecy, Quebec and Montpellier. Assassin’s Creed V will release on the PlayStation®4 from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC. The game will release worldwide on November 4, 2014.

In the events of the ongoing Industrial Revolution, Assassin’s Creed V follows the story of Samuel Fey, as he enters the Assassin Order in a time of change and Templar rule. Fey is a successful and respectful entrepreneur, who works outside the corrupt law to guarantee the security of his own and others’ futures. Taking place during the closing years of the Industrial Revolution in Victorian London, players will explore all new locales as they uncover the truth behind the hidden ongoing rebellion.

Assassin’s Creed V is the turning point for the franchise, featuring completely revised stealth and combat mechanics, powered by the next-generation Ubisoft AnvilX engine and all-new gameplay features and systems. While Assassin’s Creed acts as Ubisoft’s rescope for the franchise, it maintains the key touch points that the series is built upon.

Assassin’s Creed V can be pre-ordered at UBIShop® by visiting: http://shop.ubi.com/AC5

Limited, Collectors and Special Editions will be available after further information is uncovered in the coming weeks.

For more details and information on Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed V, please visit: assassinscreed.com and facebook.com/assassinscreed.

Backers of top-down prison break game The Escapists are no doubt aware that Team 17 have picked up the title for publication. An alpha version will be tunnelling into backer inboxes soon and the game will also be playable at EGX Rezzed. The Lair of the Worms appears to be making a concerted move into third-party publishing, having already signed minimalist stealth game Light, which was also creeping through the crowdfunding process when Team 17 spotted it. My advice? If you’re an indie developer, the best way to attract Team 17′s attention is a spot of top-down sneaking. Perhaps it’s time to start work on that roguelike Casanova sim you’ve been planning for the last five years.

The following comes from Ubisoft Toronto managing director Jade Raymond...

- will take place a new era
- the game will be based on her favorite historical era
- won't take place in Japan, but believes that that "would be a cool idea"

“When we’re building a franchise, we’re thinking of a whole universe and how we’re developing a meta-story that could live on for many years in games and TV. If the story has nowhere to go, then you end up with the video game equivalent of The Matrix 2 or something where it’s never going to be quite as genius.”

When it comes to brand new gaming experiences that can’t be had anywhere else, Wii U is loaded with a host of innovative, exciting and unique ways to play. But what’s at the heart of it all? Not surprisingly, it’s the Wii U GamePad. More than just a controller for Wii U, the GamePad is loaded with features that open up a whole world of new gaming opportunities!

For instance, take the 6.2-inch touch screen at the centre of the Wii U GamePad. Thanks to its widescreen display, many multiplayer titles on Wii U have swapped split-screen play for dual-screen – instead of two people sharing the same screen and seeing less of the action, they can have a screen each! For example, try some traditional co-op action as you chase down super-villains in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes or head for the many attractions of Nintendo Land, discovering unique gameplay experiences that change depending on whether you’re in control of the GamePad or using a Wii Remote to play on the TV.

It’s not just multiplayer gaming that benefits from the GamePad’s integrated screen either – many single-player games put the GamePad to good use during play by offering benefits you’d never get with a regular controller. In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, the GamePad becomes an interactive real-time map, so you don’t get lost on the open waves or in the darkest dungeon, as well as an on-the-fly inventory that allows you to change items without stopping the in-game action. In Pikmin 3, you can keep tabs on all your diminutive plant pals easily and send squads to other areas of the map with a touch. Use the GamePad as a golf tee in Wii Sports Club, as an all-purpose survival kit in ZombiU, to interact directly with the world of Rayman Legends, and much more besides.

And of course, plenty of Wii U games offer off-TV play, too. Even if the TV is in use, you can still enjoy all kinds of fun on Wii U without losing anything by transferring the action to the GamePad’s screen. And on top of that, Wii Party U’s GamePad Party mode features a variety of minigames played exclusively on the GamePad: no TV required!
There are even more features too, all designed to help you maximise your gaming fun. You can experience the thrill of the hunt with your friends in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, using the GamePad’s built-in microphone for voice chat during online multiplayer. Queue up songs and then belt out your favourite hits in Wii Karaoke U by JOYSOUND, using the GamePad as your own personal lyric sheet. Use infra-red communication between a Fit Meter* and the GamePad to send the walking, climbing and calorie-burning information it collects to Wii Fit U, perfect for reviewing your everyday activity. You can even use the motion controls built into the GamePad to control your view in Wii Street U powered by Google and get an even wider view of the world around you.

And if you’re an avid fan of browsing the Internet, the Wii U GamePad’s got you covered there too. Surfing the web for your favourite pages is simple with the touch screen, as you can simply tap and slide to navigate. If you have company, you can display everything on the TV for all to see, or keep it hidden until you’re ready to share what you’re looking at. You can even stream online videos on the TV while you’re searching for the next one on the GamePad, so the entertainment never has to end!

Packed with innovative features that help redefine how you have fun, the Wii U GamePad really is a whole new way to play games! Discover a world of games and much more at the official Wii U website.

* Multiplayer requires additional controllers, sold separately. Fit Meter sold separately.

The Titanfall beta on Xbox One and PC last week attracted 2 million unique players, Respawn Community Manager Abbie Heppe told Polygon.

Engineer Jon Shiring said in the same interview that Titanfall is completely reliant on the new Xbox Live Compute platform, Microsoft's cloud and scalability service: "If it's down, nobody can play." Titanfall did go dark for seven hours during the beta, as the team attempted to scale up the game for more players. Shiring called that one "human error."

"People need to understand that when you write a whole bunch of new code, there's bugs in it," he said. "We have to find those bugs. That was the goal of the beta. We know it's not going to work right. We don't want to find out on launch day. Let's find out now. We found probably 10 real things that we worked on and fixed. That's 10 things we don't have to find on launch day. We still might find some new things on launch day, but at least those ones are not there anymore."

We tried our best to master mech mechanics in the Titanfall beta last week, live and on-air, and our most memorable moments are saved for all eternity in this Joystiq Tiny Stream.

The WWE Network app is now available on PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360. Announced in January, the subscription-based service gives viewers access to over a thousand hours of wrestling on-demand video content spanning the WWE's lengthy history, including archived WCW and ECW events. Subscribers also gain access to future WWE programming, including all 12 of the brand's monthly pay-per-view events such as SummerSlam and WrestleMania. In addition to the home consoles, the app also launched on iOS, Android, Kindle Fire and Roku today.

Those looking to spring for the $9.99 per month subscription to watch the Attitude Era all over again will need to commit to six months with the service at minimum. Xbox 360 owners are also required to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription to use the WWE Network app. Xbox One owners will gain access to the app this summer alongside other devices.

The app was developed in partnership with Major League Baseball Advanced Media, the professional baseball league's creator of the MLB.TV service and the upcoming return of the RBI Baseball series. [Image: WWE]

Hi everyone! I can’t believe it’s been a year, but here we are celebrating another PS Vita anniversary! So much has happened since its launch in North America two years ago – many amazing games were released, Remote Play functionality with PS4 was added, and we announced PlayStation Now is coming to PS Vita. The platform has greatly transformed in the past year, and the passionate support and personal stories I’ve heard from our development community have been truly inspiring. Plus exciting things are on the horizon, including the launch of our new slimmer model PS Vita this spring.

As with any anniversary, we thought we’d take the time to call-out a few of our memorable moments from the last year. Although many great titles were released, these stood out in particular and kept the device in my purse/pocket/hands at all times.

Spelunky

Spelunky is one of the most addictive and lovable games I’ve ever encountered. From the adorable yet macabre art and animation, to the endless hours of replay grinding (ONE DAY I WILL BEAT KING YAMA), Spelunky will never leave my memory card.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

The story immediately sucks you in with a solid plot-line, unexpected twists, and an eclectic set of characters to choosily befriend (Byakuya’s my #1). I’m quite pumped that our friends at NIS America have already announced Danganronpa 2 coming to the US this Fall… it’s still Monokuma time!

Hotline Miami

The game is perfect for quick bursts on the go, controls well with PS Vita’s analogue sticks and touch pads, and its pixel graphics look fantastic on PS Vita’s screen. Hotline Miami is also full of all sorts of fun Easter egg references to the indie community, which ties in so well with PS Vita’s game library as a whole.

Tearaway

Definitely a must buy if you own a PS Vita. With gorgeous art, a killer soundtrack, and Iota/Atoi (your personal messenger and best friend), Tearaway is a truly immersive experience that makes you enjoy the world in a new (and papery) way.

My favorite part of the PS Vita is all the personal adventures it takes me on and the lasting memories they create. I’ve listed a few above, and I’d love to hear yours. Comment away! <:D

2014 is starting to fly by — it’s already February! — so we are taking this week to get a bit nostalgic and take a look back at 2013 and highlight some games you might have missed with the Back to 2013 Sale. Starting tomorrow through March 3rd, we’re discounting some great games from the past year, with even deeper discounts for PS Plus members.

Didn’t play Diablo III, Spelunky, Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition, Guacamelee! or Rayman Legends? Pick these games (and more) up this week at up to 50% off, or up to 75% off for PS Plus members.

MachineGames talks about Wolfenstein: The New Order being a story-driven, single-player adventure, and it's true there's some finesse and direction to the cutscenes, a suggestion of secondary characters with personality and backstory. Much the same can be said of Die Hard, though, and it's no War and Peace. That's not to dismiss the storytelling in The New Order, but based on what I see in its first two hours, it mostly sticks to the action movie spirit of tearing up Nazis, saving the day, getting the girl, and blowing shit up.

The return of William "BJ" Blazkowicz provides a gruff-voiced American hero with McClane-like hardened features and self-whispered one-liners, while Gruber is all but resurrected in the campy glares and maniacal laughs of the game's arch-villains. More important than that, I've got waves and waves of "Nazi scum" to kill, to use the blunt words of Blazkowicz, and machine guns in each hand. A story-driven romp The New Order may be, but a romp is still a romp. That said, the game shows a hand for ripping up preconceptions.
