Triumph Studios' turn-based strategy game Age of Wonders 3 will launch on PC next month, on March 31. The fantasy game was originally due late last year, but had to be pushed back for "additional polish."

All those who pre-purchase the game through GOG or Steam will be guaranteed an additional mission, playable in both single-player and multiplayer. Called "Elven Resurgence," this mission takes travelers to Heartwood Forest - once a meeting place for the Elven High Court, the forest is now an abandoned battlefield where scattered clans of Elves wage war for its control.

Age of Wonders 3 will be available in both a standard version for $40 and a deluxe edition for $45. The latter tosses in the Age of Wonders 3 soundtrack and an additional single-player mission revolving around eight lords feuding over a discovered dragon's egg.

Tecmo-Koei announced that a new entry in its Dynasty Warriors: Gundam mecha brawler series is coming to North America and Europe this summer for the PlayStation 3.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn features a variety of playable scenarios inspired by the past 30 years of Gundam anime and manga, including a collection of missions based on the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED series. A trio of games preceded Reborn on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 hitting both platforms in 2011. Reborn is the first series entry to premiere exclusively for the PS3.

Hey, the guy who just did Batman's voice will be doing Sonic next. Hello youse.

I haven’t read any of the Discworld books. Don’t judge me. I’m just – DO NOT JUDGE ME – not that big a fan of fantasy stuff, really. I couldn’t even make it through Lord of the Rings, that stuffy phone book of a thing. I was a horror guy in my youth. Stephen King and James Herbert and HP Lovecraft. Wizards? Nah. Not my bag. So Discworld was something that passed me by. Which makes it VERY INTERESTING that I now review a Discworld board game, because I have no *crag*ing idea what any of the stuff refers to. ONWARDS. … [visit site to read more]

Persona 5 isn't coming out until sometime in the "winter" of 2014 in Japan, but it'll eventually leave there, too. Atlus has announced Persona 5 is also coming to North America in 2015.

(That gives me plenty of time to finally play Persona 4 Golden on my Vita!)

Right now, Persona 5 is only scheduled for a release on PlayStation 3. A version for PlayStation 4 with Remote Play sure would be nice, though!

Atlus also confirmed the other recently announced Persona games--Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Persona 4: Dancing All Night--are coming over, as well. The update to Persona's fighting spin-off arrives this fall, while the series' introduction to rhythm is next year.

After choosing Satya Nadella to replace Steve Ballmer as CEO, Microsoft has elected to appoint Stephen Elop as head of its Devices and Studios division. The news comes from an internal memo posted over on TechCrunch. Microsoft's Devices and Studios wing oversees Xbox, Surface, entertainment and games.

Elop was the former CEO of Nokia, which Microsoft announced it intended to purchase last year. Elop will replace Julie Larson-Green, who will shift roles from hardware over to Microsoft's My Life and Work team, a subdivision of the Applications and Services Group. Prior to her appointment as head of Xbox last year, Larson-Green was in charge of all Windows products.

At one point, Elop was in the running to replace Ballmer at Microsoft, at which point insiders claim he was considering selling off the Xbox division. Elop served as CEO of Nokia for three years. [Image: Wikimedia Commons]

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy follows a grand tradition of puzzle-adventures. Filled to the brim with brain teasers of all shapes and sizes, The Azran Legacy is a relatively non-linear exploration of the series' last mysteries. Will you like it? It depends. How much do you enjoy having your mental processes challenged?

Coming from a GamesIndustry interview with Keiji Inafune...

"Of course there are the language barriers, but it's not just that. Looking at the data for the backers of Mighty No. 9, approximately 60 percent of those people were from North America. So of course, the Japanese developers would have to make something that appeals to the North American audience, and currently a lot of Japanese developers can't actually tell what the North American audience wants. And until they learn how to be able to do that, that's one of the biggest hurdles.

For example, with Capcom and Bionic Commando, that game wasn't really a big hit in Japan but it sold quite well in North America. The people in the company didn't fully understand this, so it was hard to get them to understand there's still a possibility for profit here, still a possibility to make a good game from something like this. Until we can understand the American market in that sense as well, it's going to be hard for other private [Japanese] companies to get into Kickstarter."

Level-5 insists this is the end of Professor Layton taking top billing. The franchise will continue in unknown directions, but The Azran Legacy offers a worthwhile conclusion that adheres closely to the same formula that made Layton so beloved.

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy feels like as good a way to sign off as could be expected, and the right time to maybe wish the professor a fond farewell, watching sadly as the sunshine follows his little red car into the distance.

Before Eidos Montreal tore the internet asunder with their Thief reboot, they made Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It was well liked upon release, but I still feel like it doesn’t get enough attention. It did, however, get a recent, somewhat crappy tablet spin-off called The Fall.

That spin-off is now coming to PC on March 25th. If it was somewhat crappy, why does that matter? When The Fall is all there is of Deus Ex, it matters. … [visit site to read more]
