Discovering secrets and solving mind - bending puzzles is wHat Professor Layton does best. In the Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy game, Professor Layton and his faithful assistants Luke and Emmy board the airship Bostonius and journey to locations all over the world as they solve the grEatest puzzle mankind has ever faced. The enteRtaining and challenging puzzles the series is known for return in Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, only this time, these puzzles are more directly themed to the locations in which they've been found. One puzzle in Froenborg may ask players to identify the differences in crystal - like snowflakes, for instance, while a Metro - based puzzle will appear while traveling the buSy streets of London . In addition to encountering the game's numerous puzzles during the main story, other puzzles can be discovered by exploring the environment or speaking with certain characters. Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy is full of memorable new characters, as well as familiar favorites who make surprising returns.

As they explore the detailEd environments, players can find certain items on the screen like a pair of skis or a golden apple. These challenges are then sent via StreetPass to other players who are playing Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy and who have the StreetPass feature enabled. Recently, The Order: 1886 took the spotlight as Ready at Dawn revealed new details and first gameplay footage for the hotly anticipated 2014 PS4 exclusive. In our new video interview, Creative Director and Ready at Dawn Co-founder Ru Weerasuriya revealed new insights into the game’s combat, storyline, and graphical prowess.

The game’s universe is a complex, heady brew steeped in myth and half-truths. Inspired by an array of divergent topics ranging from King Arthur’s Round Table to the Industrial Revolution, The Order: 1886 paints a grim vision of 19th-century Victorian London. With mankind locked in a centuries-old struggle against a race of monstrous Half-Breeds, The Order was formed to turn the tide using state-of-the-art weaponry and centuries of combat experience. Amidst the ever-present Half-Breed threat, The Order must also contend with a rebel network of humans who resent the aristocracy that created it.

The Order’s first gameplay footage takes us to the London district of Whitechapel, a hive of scum and villainy that nonetheless looks sumptuous thanks to the game’s rich, saturated environment lighting. Galahad, Lafayette and the rest of The Order also look stunning, with agonizingly detailed costumes and eerily lifelike facial details that rival the pre-rendered CG cutscenes seen in many other games.

9557414295_a4070b31eb_n.jpg9557414317_e8f1a9bfd1_n.jpg

One rough-and-tumble fight sequence demonstrates The Order’s immersive approach to melee combat. After Galahad grapples with a feisty rebel, the player can grasp for one of several weapons lying nearby in order to land the finishing blow. Ready at Dawn promises that The Order’s melee combat will be branching and dynamic, so different players will get different results.

With its cinematic presentation and painstakingly constructed Neo-Victorian environments, The Order: 1886 makes a convincing case for PS4’s graphical prowess and Ready at Dawn’s eye for detail. We’ll know more once we finally get a chance to go hands-on with this promising PS4 exclusive.

The best-ever version of the smash hit Dead Nation is making its way to PS4 next week on March 4th. Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition will be available on PlayStation Store for $14.99 and PlayStation Plus members will be able to download it as part of their Instant Game Collection.

Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition is a top-down shoot ‘em up, set in an apocalyptic, zombie-infested world. It comes from the talented developer Housemarque, famous for the Super Stardust series, and more recently the critically acclaimed Resogun.

Dead Nation features a full campaign mode, which can be played solo or co-op (either online or local).

Exclusively available on PS4, Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition features numerous enhancements, making it the best version yet. You can now play in full 1080p HD, with improved textures, rendering, and effects — Dead Nation has never looked better. We also improved the controls, adding in a quick weapon select so your favorite zombie decimator is never out of reach.

12804951415_e9cd51aaaa_n.jpg12804951975_daf74bd13a_n.jpg

The Road to Devastation expansion is now included in the main game, giving you two extra game modes — Arcade and Endless — allowing you to test yourself against ever increasing odds. And with support for the official PlayStation companion app, all you completionists out there now have a second screen to monitor your game stats as you play.

One of the new features in Apocalypse Edition, which you may have spotted in the trailer, is Challenge mode; every time you finish a single level, you can now send your score over to a friend to try and beat. When playing a challenge you can see the avatar of the player who set the challenge, allowing you to race against them or scope out their high-scoring route. What’s that I hear you say? “What if your friends are no match for your zombie decapitating skills?” Well, how about you take on the challenge of any leaderboard entry, for any single level, made by any player?

My favorite new feature is Broadcast+ mode. In this mode, you can stream your game to the masses interactively, and your viewers can influence the difficulty of your game. Periodically all your viewers, whether they be on PS4 or a web browser, have the option to vote between a positive and negative effect that occurs in your game. There are a total of 30 different voting effects that can occur, ranging from spawning zombie packs to giving the player ammo, or even disabling the player’s ability to sprint. But don’t worry; as a player you can get back at the masses, because voters will appear in your game as named zombies for you to exact your revenge on.

Stay on the lookout for more Dead Nation news soon, including hints and tips and an update on the PS Vita version.

The first thing I noticed about Nova-111 is that it has a full-blown, always on-screen Science Meter. That is a bonfide part of the game. “Alright,” I thought to myself and probably said to some modern mutant wizard who is cursed with the blessing of hearing all human thoughts at once, “we’re off to a solid start, but is this game good or just cute?” So I dug deeper. Nova, I discovered, is a real-time/turn-based explorer mash-up that a) allows you to break the rules of both real-time and turn-based existence with all manner of abilities and b) integrates that conceit into its plot. I’m so delighted that I don’t care if all the mind crime mutants in the world know. Trailer in the beneathplaces.

Early access survival game Nether seems to have earned plenty of positive coverage in the past few months, and you can perhaps see why: an atmospheric apocalypse aesthetic, hordes of not-quite-zombie mutant things, and brutal PvP. It rings that survival combat bell pretty loudly. It does, however, bear an uncanny resemblance to a game which was not so popular, and was not particularly good – WarZ/Infestation Stories – which didn’t go down well at all. Furthermore, a number of readers have pointed out to me that both Infestation and Nether trademarks were filed by the same person. What could it mean?

I decided to have a play and judge the game on its own spooky merits.

The Nintendo Wi-Fi connection for Wii and DS ends on May 20, bringing an end to online play for the two systems. What that means is there are a few months left to play Wii and DS games online, be that through multiplayer, sharing in-game content, or leaderboards.

Nintendo notes this is just for the DS and Wii and won't affect Wii U and 3DS games, although Wii Mode won't offer online play on Wii U and similarly DS games when played on the 3DS.

The two systems aren't losing all online functionality. The DSi shop and Wii U Shop Channel are staying open, and users will still be able to access the DS Browser and Wii channels like Neflix, Hulu, and YouTube. The company also published a full list of the affected games.

Nintendo didn't provide an explanation for the discontinued service in its announcement - nor did it ask the last ones out on DS and Wii to remember to turn out the lights - but it did thank its fans for their continued support and enthusiasm for its "legacy systems." [Image: Nintendo]

How many types of Steam sale are there? The huge seasonal ones, midweek discounts, daily reductions and bundled packs all vie for the attention of your eyes whenever they crop up on the front page. It’s almost impossible to buy a game that isn’t subject to price cuts so low that I’m beginning to suspect that Crazy Eddie has taken over Valve HQ.

Apparently, the current sales cannot sate the clawing hands of the hungry public. Developers will now be able to set discounts on their own releases, in what Valve describe as “another effort to shorten the distance between developers and customers”. There are rules to prevent an apocalyptic salesplosion and I have listed them below.

A recent survey conducted by app marketing firm Swrve found that 50 percent of all free-to-play mobile game revenue comes from only 0.15 percent of players.

The survey, reported by VentureBeat, finds that big-spending players, or "whales," often determine a free-to-play game's financial success. Swrve's survey additionally found that the vast majority of its 10 million tracked players never spent any money whatsoever on free-to-play mobile games.

Speaking to VentureBeat, Swrve CEO Hugh Reynolds broke down the survey's results, explaining that only 1.5 percent of surveyed players made a purchase within a free-to-play game in the month of January. Around 50 percent of recorded revenue came from the top ten percent of players who did make purchases, representing 0.15 percent of the survey's total headcount.

Reynolds also warns that traditional in-app purchase marketing methods are proving less effective in the current marketplace climate. "People are very mobile, and they have a lot of options," Reynolds told VentureBeat. "Trying to capture them is becoming more and more difficult."

Rockstar has added another ten jobs to GTA Online's list of multiplayer to-dos today, one of them being an impressive recreation of the famous German race track, Nürburgring.

"Verified Jobs" are custom multiplayer match types, created by the community and hand-selected by Rockstar developers. Players create these custom Jobs using GTA Online's creation tools, introduced in late December to both Xbox 360 and PS3.

Creation tools are currently limited, and only support race and deathmatch variants. Rockstar plans to expand GTA Online's creation system soon, and expects to add co-op heists some time this year. [Image: Rockstar Games]
