Tony Hawk may be returning to video games, but he isn't returning to consoles anytime soon. The skateboarding star revealed his new game is exclusively for mobile phones, after admitting last year he'd been "wanting to do a mobile game for a long time."

"We're working on a mobile game now," Hawk told Bloomberg. "We're working on a game for mobile devices this year. We've never gone exclusively in that direction so I'm excited because, with the amount of time people are spending on their phones and their tablets playing games, we've never had our own game in that space, so I'm excited to provide one finally."

Hawk told CNBC last year that, with gaming expanding beyond traditional devices, "you've got to learn to adapt what you know from the technology into these areas." According to CNBC, Hawk saw the best mobile model to be making the game free but to start charging when players wanted to progress to further levels. There's no confirmation of any pricing structure for the newly-announced game as yet.

Hawk's new game, which sees the ex-pro skater reunite with Activision, is the first to bear the name since Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD (above) from 2012. Robomodo developed that game, as well as the ill-fated Ride and Shred, but despite some mischievous re-tweeting it's not known if the indie studio is on board this time around. [Image: Activision]

New Tropico games aren’t appearing as quickly as my brain thinks. This is simply that I now perceive time at such a pace that the world is a dizzying blur around me. If you’d held a knifegun to my headthroat and demanded a release date for Tropico 4, I’d have tried to second-guess myself and suggested late 2012. It was in fact August 2011, and I am an old, confused man, unsure why the Christmasses won’t stop happening. Anyway, my confused rambling aside, Tropico 5 is appearing a very appropriate three years after the last time El Presidente reared his undemocratic city building head, and is now accepting applications for its March beta.

Hey everyone, it’s Pawel Miechowski from 11 bit studios, here. Back in 2012, I had the pleasure of sharing information on Anomaly Warzone Earth. Today, I want to talk about the award-winning sequel to one of the world’s first “tower offense” games – Anomaly 2 – which is coming soon to PS4.

If you’ve played our first installment of the Anomaly series before, you know what’s up. If you’re new, please let me explain what Anomaly is all about, including some of its features. Anomaly Warzone Earth was one of the first tactical, reversed tower defense games in the world, where you didn’t control the towers (aliens), but rather the attackers (human forces) and defended Earth.

In Anomaly 2, the story continues right after the invasion of Earth in 2018. Our planet is controlled by the aliens, and humankind is almost extinct. Those who managed to survive are grouped in convoys. Your convoy is called Yukon.

In AWE’s sequel, you’re again playing as Commander, controlling him on the battlefield and supporting the units in your convoy with four special abilities which you deploy during missions. The very first abillity available to you is Repair, which is basically an area of effect healing. Next we have Decoy — an ability that baits aliens’ towers to attack the decoy and not the troops.

12753619813_9388b4c7dc_n.jpg12753496315_67ccb687b3_n.jpg

The third skill in your arsenal is an EMP, which briefly stuns towers which will not activate again if not attacked. Last but not least is AIM, a skill that doubles the damage of your troops; it’s used to destroy high-priority targets.

On top of that, Commander can morph his units. There are five different unit classes (and every class can be upgraded), each having two morphing modes which opens up a lot of tactical opportunities for players. For example, Rocket Hammer, which has the highest damage of all units in the convoy and has a 360 degree view, can be morphed into Sledge Hammer, which has a higher range, but cannot attack units on its sides with only a 30 degree, forward-firing arc.

You may remember the tactical view we created in AWE. It allowed players to set the path for their units. We’ve decided to continue this perspective in Anomaly 2. Players are also able to mix units’ orders on their path to make more strategical decisions and have a better chance at defeating the invaders.

We’ve also added a multiplayer mode where opponents choose sides, either aliens or humans, and square off to see who’s the best on the block. Multiplayer is a mix of regular tower defense play in which one of the players controls towers, upgrades them, and uses their abilities, while the other plays much in the way you do during single-player missions. Multiplayer mode offers a tech-tree to develop unique strategies. And keep in mind that multiplayer mode’s pace is faster than in single-player!

12753619883_4c4f2761e9_z.jpg

With all the improvements we’ve made in Anomaly 2, we aim to make it the ultimate tower offense game. Players have access to a prelude and 14 missions, which in total provides several hours of fun. Plus, the visual design is just beautiful; a brilliantly-rendered world and improved graphical engine.

The music has once again been created by Piotr Musial, who made the soundtrack for Anomaly Warzone Earth, too. If you’re a game music fan, we’ve shared all of our OSTs with the public. They can be downloaded here.

We will share more information with you soon. Join us on Facebook and Twitter. Also, if you have any questions, please post them below — I’m here to answer them.

Shooting at each other is something we’ve been doing in sixteens for many a year. But clubbing each other to death is so often more personal. Skara: The Blade Remains is looking to fix that, in what they wildly inaccurately call a “massively multiplayer online versus game”. 16 is lots of people in a fight, but it’s not “massive”, you sillies. It does, however, look pretty decent for an alpha only eight months in the making.

Infinite Crisis, developer Turbine's take on the multiplayer online battle arena genre featuring heroes and villains from the DC Universe, will launch its open beta on March 14. Turbine announced the upcoming PC title's open beta start date at an event yesterday, alongside reveals of three new characters: Green Arrow, Aquaman and Mecha Superman.

Infinite Crisis is a free-to-play MOBA game, a genre that has exploded in the last few years with titles such as Riot's League of Legends and Valve's Dota 2.

In the last ten to eleven months of development, Infinite Crisis content has drastically increased in size, Executive Producer Jeffrey Steefel claims. "We now have three maps, three modes, a huge amount of different ways you can play the game. Twenty-seven characters and, in fact, we are adding a new character every three weeks." Recently, The Order: 1886 took the spotlight as Ready at Dawn revealed new details and first gameplay footage for the hotly anticipated 2014 PS4 exclusive. In our new video interview, Creative Director and Ready at Dawn Co-founder Ru Weerasuriya revealed new insights into the game’s combat, storyline, and graphical prowess.

The game’s universe is a complex, heady brew steeped in myth and half-truths. Inspired by an array of divergent topics ranging from King Arthur’s Round Table to the Industrial Revolution, The Order: 1886 paints a grim vision of 19th-century Victorian London. With mankind locked in a centuries-old struggle against a race of monstrous Half-Breeds, The Order was formed to turn the tide using state-of-the-art weaponry and centuries of combat experience. Amidst the ever-present Half-Breed threat, The Order must also contend with a rebel network of humans who resent the aristocracy that created it.

The Order’s first gameplay footage takes us to the London district of Whitechapel, a hive of scum and villainy that nonetheless looks sumptuous thanks to the game’s rich, saturated environment lighting. Galahad, Lafayette and the rest of The Order also look stunning, with agonizingly detailed costumes and eerily lifelike facial details that rival the pre-rendered CG cutscenes seen in many other games.

9557414295_a4070b31eb_n.jpg9557414317_e8f1a9bfd1_n.jpg

One rough-and-tumble fight sequence demonstrates The Order’s immersive approach to melee combat. After Galahad grapples with a feisty rebel, the player can grasp for one of several weapons lying nearby in order to land the finishing blow. Ready at Dawn promises that The Order’s melee combat will be branching and dynamic, so different players will get different results.

With its cinematic presentation and painstakingly constructed Neo-Victorian environments, The Order: 1886 makes a convincing case for PS4’s graphical prowess and Ready at Dawn’s eye for detail. We’ll know more once we finally get a chance to go hands-on with this promising PS4 exclusive.
