Sony has revealed next month's additions to its PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection in Europe, mirroring much of the content set for a free release in North America throughout March.

Starting next month, PlayStation Plus subscribers in Europe can pick up a no-cost copy of Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition, an enhanced PlayStation 4 version of Super Stardust developer Housemarque's top-down zombie shooter. PlayStation 3 owners will receive free downloads of Square Enix's Tomb Raider and Starbreeze's Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, which hit the PlayStation Plus program in North America last month.

March's PlayStation Vita freebies include the brain training app Smart As... and Q Games' tower defense game Pixeljunk Monsters Ultimate HD. Launch dates for featured games have not been announced.

Tax credits are the kinds of things that most video game lovers wouldn't think about when considering where their favorite releases come from. But the publishers and developers that distribute and create games depend on them when figuring out the financials of their particular businesses. Now, a Republican tax proposal would deny that relief from companies who make "violent video games." That, to me, seems pretty ill-advised.Read more...

Better late than never, developer Harebrained Schemes has released the Dragonfall expansion for Shadowrun Returns, bringing the cyberpunk roleplaying game from the dark streets of cyberpunk Seattle to the likewise gloomy streets of cyberpunk Berlin.

Along with the new setting comes a new plot, focusing on the titular "Dragonfall," a prophecy that heralds apocalyptic destruction if a certain dragon decides to cause trouble for humanity. Unlike the original Shadowrun Returns campaign, Dragonfall is said to be far less linear, with a hub supporting a variety of missions that players can attempt at their leisure. Dragonfall also adds new weapons, items and character portraits to the game, alongside new content for the Shadowrun Returns editor. Most crucially, this expansion finally gives players the ability to save their progress at any time.

Dragonfall is currently available on Steam for $15. It requires players to already own a copy of Shadowrun Returns, but that can also be found on Steam for $20. [Image: Harebrained Schemes]

It's all been leading up to this. Hundreds of pages, or hours, of buildup, leading up to the final confrontation between the forces of excellent and the forces of not-excellent. And then... it's kind of a bust. The bad guys kind of fold. Or the fight lasts 30 seconds. Or it's just thumb-wrestling. Here are the most disappointing, and saddest, final confrontations of all time.Read more...

Classic turn-based RPG Shin Megami Tensei is coming to iOS on March 18. Adventurers interested in collecting demons and exploring the dank dungeons of the Atlus series' progenitor can grab Shin Megami Tensei through the App Store for $7.99.

This port marks the first time that Shin Megami Tensei will be made available the West since its initial launch in Japan in 1992. The same team responsible for Western ports of Persona 4, Catherine, and Shin Megami Tensei IV will undertake translation of this lengthy RPG.

This port is the first project in what will be a busy year for the Japanese developer and publisher. Earlier this week, Atlus announced it intends to localize four new Persona games in North America: Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Persona 4: Dancing All Night and Persona 5. Last week we caught an early glimpse of Nvidia’s latest and greatest GPU design, known as Maxwell. We’ll have to wait a while to see what impact it has on true gaming PCs, but the sheer power efficiency of the new architecture certainly looks promising. Anywho, the Maxwell launch event was a chance to hook up with Nvidia and quiz them on a subject that’s been vexing me of late, namely the rise of proprietary gaming tech – well, mainly graphics – for the PC. What with Mantle and HSA from AMD, G-Sync, 3D Vision and Shield-tethered game streaming from Nvidia, it feels like gaming hardware is becoming increasingly partisan. So what gives? Tom Petersen, Nvidia’s Director of Technical Marketing for GeForce, gave me the low down. … [visit site to read more]
