A portion of a SMP interview with David Wise...

SMP: Fans are obviously excited about hearing “Aquatic Ambiance” redone in Tropical Freeze. Would you like to comment on the creation of this track for the original Donkey Kong Country and how you went about updating it for Tropical Freeze? Perhaps you’d like to share some of the tools you used this time around?

David Wise: On the original game, we had 64k of sample memory, which is simply minuscule by today’s standards. The original soundtrack relied on taking the smallest of single cycle waveforms and writing subroutines to re-sequence the order they were played back in. By contrast, this time I was using modern tools to host many virtual instruments with up to 64 gigs of memory in a very fast PC. Even with all that processing power, I still found myself throwing a lot of powerful instruments into the mix, to make it sound lush and detailed enough for a 2014 arrangement.

Strike Vector‘s eye-catching trailers meant that it was destined for my hard-drive. I have a long, over-document fondness for that genre of game that straddles all types of non-simulatory flight combat, and although it’s taken me a while to catch up with Strike Vector, I’m glad I did. Back in the times of Forsaken and Descent, I would sink lifetimes into these kinds of games, and Strike Vector – a multiplayer take on the idea – feels very much like a cry from that distant and beautifully three-dimensional past.

But does that invocation of the classics lead to greatness? Here’s Wot I Think.

A portion of a review from The Guardian...

I can understand it as a slow game played to relax, a complete thing to be enjoyed and absorbed the same way you might watch a film on a weekend. But I wanted more: more depth, more interaction, more complexity; a hero's journey with more at stake than flowers.

Looks like your standard enemy, right? Well this poor guy, coming from the NES version of Strider, never actually made it into the game. He's tucked away in the game's data, but doesn't actually show up in any of the levels. Poor guy never had a chance to strut his stuff.
