As far as I’m concerned, the important tasks for any new Blood Bowl 2 trailer to accomplish are as follows:

1) Show me which races will be available so that I don’t expect to be writing about an Ultimate Skaven Edition in three years time. 2) Attempt to convince me that the camera movement and turn-flow will be as smooth as a freshly shampooed dwarf beard. 3) Go some way toward showing that turn-based tactical trouncing is a bigger draw than ‘comic’ commentary.

The video below does not accomplish these things.

A portion of a CVG interview with Yoshio Sakamoto...

CVG: In your Tomodachi presentation, you mentioned your mission to 'create a game that moves the industry forwards'. Does that mean you will not return to the more traditional game series that you're known for?

Sakamoto: I do not intend to do so. There might [currently] be various tasks I might be involved in with past series. However, even if so I would always like to introduce new entertainment and new fun to those series.

I would like to satisfy fans of those series, but also working with other talented individuals I would like to create entertainment that's completely different and that brings new emotions. I would like to challenge myself in those unique directions.

This might be indirect, but if we can make new types of gamers enjoy video games for the first time through Tomodachi Life, then they might eventually become interested in the more conventional games. I think we need to ensure that video games remain attractive to consumers, and in order to do so new concepts and ideas are important. I would like to challenge myself to do that.

I am told by many people that I have developed many different types of games over my career, but I think this is solely because I was able to partner with many different people with many different talents. Although the types of games are different, what I think is the same for each development is the process of deciding which kinds of emotions we should bring to players.

When we think in that manner, many approaches of game development are actually the same over different types of games. I think in the end what is most important is hospitality towards consumers. When we develop games we always think, 'what do we have to do to make players happy or satisfied?'

Coming from an EDGE interview with Ken Lobb...

The fight, in the pre-internet world, was that we were getting a lot of pressure from fans. Nowadays, you'd be buried under Twitter, NeoGAF — both of which I love, by the way — but those voices are even louder today than they were back then. It comes back to a lesson I learned a long time ago: always listen to your customer, but also understand that if you do focus testing what you're going to hear is, "I want that thing you did last time, because that was awesome." Every once in a while, you have to learn to not listen to that and go, "Actually, Metroid in firstperson we think could make more sense." Great creatives are going to disrupt their earlier designs and make things that are new, or build completely new games or new genres.

It's hard to argue with that logic when you see how great Metroid Prime turned out, as well as the subsequent entries. Now fans are dying for Metroid to get back to the Prime series. Does that mean Nintendo won't do it?!

Conception II is out today, and while you're waiting to go pick up your fancy collector's edition from your local game store or download the game from the Nintendo eShop or PlayStation Network, you should watch the full trailer for Conception II by clicking the image above or this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WN1mMpYiac!

If you pick up the game, but haven't played through the demo, you may want to give it a shot! Your save data transfers over, and you'll get a set of free goodies! You should also download the free Disciple Weapon Pack DLC to get five weapons your party can use. But make sure to get it soon, as it's only free for the first month.

If you were wondering where the Monokuma DLC is, two Monokuma quests will be added in May. For free! Other DLC will start rolling out each week, and you can check it all under the "Extras" section of the Conception II website. Uhuhuhuhuh!

Oh, and speaking of May, to our European fans who have been waiting for news about Conception II's release date: Both the demo and the game should be launching in May for EU territories! We don't have the exact dates confirmed yet, but once we get them locked in, we'll let you know!

Despite the amount of annoyance that console fanboys have caused me over the years as a person writing about video games on the Internet, despite the endless comments threads they have derailed with their arguments, I still have a small reserve of affection for these people. There's a passion inherent in fanboyism that's actually quite inspirational, when it's not allowed to get out of hand; it's the kind of passion that brings us fan art and cosplay, when applied positively. There's something endearing about someone who just really, really loves a thing.Read more...

A portion of a NWR review...

It’s no small wonder why the first Conception title didn’t go abroad if it is as rife with Japanese tropes as this one is, including, but not limited to, transformation sequences, teacher-student relationships and the token big breasted girl whose boobs jiggle when she so much as breathes. Conception II starts with an interesting story, an engaging turn-based combat system and Star Children (enough said), but is often bogged down by its awkward dialogue and dull characters.
