{There's also some minor spoilers for Marionette; a story that I intend on writing if I ever stop procrastinating.}

The Basics: Cel gives out the Oress in order to protect this Reality or something.

But what's the real story? Why does she need to hand them out, and why in The Bitlands? Well, just read the following wall of text and find out!

You could say it all started with "Her'; one of "Them". "They" were supposedly higher beings. But they weren't necessarily gods. Their only purpose was to exist and observe, and attempt to assist Realities in desperate need. However, they lack any sort of godly power, so their assistance is usually something small {that could be easily be performed by an average person} which sets off a domino effect eventually leading to the Reality becoming "better". Each one of Them is assigned a different Reality to watch over. She went missing one day, leaving Her Reality un-watched. Rumor has it that She took refuge in that Reality for unknown reasons; the greatest speculation of Her reasoning being that She wanted to stud Her Reality as a resident of that Reality. Of course, that resident is unknown.

After She disappeared; Manipulators were created in Her place. The Manipulators, their Associates, the Oress {in the future} and anyone they disclosed information to were the only ones who had knowledge of Their existence. Verity Mitsu, the third and current Manipulator, ended up taking extreme interest in becoming one of Them.

Each Manipulator has a "Manipulated"; someone who a Manipulator uses as a partner of sorts {In Verity's case, her Manipulated was used more as a pawn, and they rarely interacted. When they did, Verity was usually trying to kill said person.}. Halyn Mitsu, the original Manipulator, had none other than Umbra Tear as her Manipulated.

Umbra ended up "quitting" for unknown reasons, and created the Oress.

The purpose behind the Oress is known. There's several theories; Umbra made them to destroy the Manipulators, they were made in an attempt to impress them...some even speculate that she created them to serve similar purposes as the Manipulators.

When the Oress were created, they ended up acquiring knowledge of Them as well. A few of the Oress even went off on their own due to curiosity of Them, others ended up splitting away from Umbra to become more like average people, and the rest remained to serve Umbra Tear.

Meanwhile, Verity had gradually become obsessive over becoming one of Them, to the point where Halyn had to attempt to get rid of her. This attempt failed horrifically, and Verity began to pursue anyone with knowledge of Them. Anyone aware of Their existence was seen as a threat; only one person from a Reality could become one of Them, and since She was "out of the way", Verity figured she had a shot.

Umbra and Halyn noted this as well, and separately realized the horrors that would befall the Reality if Verity were to become one of Them. So, they would have to get rid of the others first, or else Verity would get acknowledgment. Knowing they could defend themselves; each one sent their forces after the Oress, who were seen as the weakest of the bunch. While Halyn's Assistants and Umbra Tear made a fairly large indent on the number of fallen Oress {and other various people aware of Them}; Verity ended up murdering most of them.

Due to the fact that this plot revolves the Oress, I won't spoil what happens to the people remaining in that Reality.

Liarae Neren, along with a few others, were known as "Sub-Oress". The Sub-Oress were important figures in their Reality that willingly "became" Oress for purposes normally undisclosed. Anyways; Liarae Neren was supposedly the person in the Reality who decided where people went after they died, depending on their belief, how they lived their lives, and so on.

When the Oress died, their "purpose" {which still remains a secret} had not yet been fulfilled. Upon Cel's death {the final one}, Neren decided to "cheat", and send them to a Reality in need to allow them to fulfill said purpose.

Cel was sent to the Bitlands {seen as similar to the original Reality; chaotic and unpredictable} with the orb forms, and was ordered to give them out to a "new generation of Oress", and then this new generation of Oress {the Oress Holders, that's you guys lolol} would have to fulfill this purpose. Without ever finding out what it was, that is.

Since Umbra was directly linked directly to the Oress, she was easily able to pinpoint that the Oress had ended up in the Bitlands. Halyn arrived under the guise of Nylah, and Fray tagged along with her {although, they've gone separate ways}.

But you don't have to worry about all that in this plot; here's what you need to worry about.

Once I give out a satisfactory number of Oress, I'll probably have Verity end up popping in. Since Umbra, Halyn {I intend on getting her Assistants into this as well}, and Verity will all end up in the same Reality once more, you guys will end up being the bonus targets, and the war for the destruction of the Oress shall begin once more. But, since all of you are here {not to mention Umbra's got her own Assistants from here}, another side will be added, and maybe Verity, Halyn, and Umbra's forces will get screwed over for good.

Not to mention that you'll get to go on a boatload of random adventures that aren't as serious; this is only the beginning of it all!

Technically, Neren's been dead since that Reality's been in existence. She rarely leaves her area of existence, since there's too many deaths in that Reality for her to take a break. The only times she leaves is to retrieve people who have broken the "rules of life" for that Reality, and in the future, to check up on her new Oress Holder. On the occasions she does leave, she usually finds some sort of replacement.
