Although I use Carry most, I love Slim because because I can turn flat in the 2D dimension are be unattackable! 
Now to sound like a pussy, just, you know, with annoying attack like Super Dimentio's extremely easily avoidable super jump, or Francis...
Not to insult the admin, but Francis was the most annoying boss ever...
Hes cool, just has vary annoying attacks...
and that vanishing thing...
But yeah I'd have to say Slim... Just for that reason... |

I could hardly stand having to use anything else once I got him
not only does he make running around a lot easier, obviously, but he also makes Bowser (my second favorite character) MUCH more fun to use, and *most* importantly, he makes the game feel a lot more like a classic Mario game in that you're holding 'B' (as if it were an actual NES controller) to run.
and ya have to EARN him.

Ah, it's a hard toss-up between Cudge and Dashell; I can't stand not being able to use the hammer whenever I want to, so Cudge fixes that...and Koopakape explains why I love Dashell.
I'm probably going to have to go with Cudge, just because it makes it feel more like the first two PMs. |
