Or, as far as items and stages go, let the two participants decide themselves.

That is true.

Also, I don't want to use the rules most tourneys do, because I think banning a stage is very, very, very idiotic. If it's in the blasted game, then it should be allowed.

banning stages is dumb and smart ,people may create fights and blame the the stage for their defeat and if they are pros they should be able to deal with the stage so ya keep stages.. unless it is inheritly gai and absoulty nobody likes it

Then that's all the reason to keep the stage. Make them fight on ground that they hate. It'll do them good.

Just do the Melee tourney rules.

*4 stocks.

*No items.

*8:00 time limit.

*Not sure about stages and what stage are and aren't banned. Basically, any very large stage and any stage with walls are banned.

*Matches are best of 3, finals are best of 5.

*If there is a Sudden Death, both players will end the match and start the same match up again (same characters and stage) at one stock and fight.

*First stage is random or agreed upon by both players, further are counterpicked by the losing player, or selected at random if loser picks new character.

*Advanced Slob Picks: Loser may choose the next stage or elect to go
random, then winner may choose to change characters, then loser may
change characters

*Double blind for character selection may be used if a player wants to. A double blind is when both players say what character they are going to use to an official, and they have to use it. They are used so people don't blatantly counterpick.

* Stage Strike: Both players may choose one stage to strike off of the random list, which only applies to random. If you won your match, and your opponent chooses to counterpick stage instead of character, he may pick the stage you struck off random. However, if he counterpicks character, both of you may still strike one stage off of random. Stage strikes are chosen after characters are chosen.

EDIT: Also, stages are banned because of many things. If there is a wall, Fox can infinite combo (in Melee at least, not sure about Brawl). Big stages usually have really long matches and many things to tech off of (Hyrule in Melee). Skyworld is like this because all of the platforms (even the 3 smaller ones) can be teched off of, so theoretically you could live to 999%.

Too complicated for digibutter.

We should at least use rules 1-6.

So infinite combos are not cheap? Most fighting games (even Melee and SSB) have infinite combos that are banned. Infinite combos don't take much skill because it is just a memorization of usually 3 or less attacks. And saying something like "well you can avoid it if you are good enough" may be practically true, but reality wise, people can't avoid it. Because if everyone could avoid it, they wouldn't be banned.
