That isn't as focused on old games there as some would think. There are about(I think)20 Coin-Op classics, and some remakes of games like Contra and Prince of Persia, but alot of the stuff there is pretty original.
(Small Arms is a pain in the ass, though.) |

What about hacks of games? When talking about emulators and roms, the term "hack" is used to refer to an edit to the rom. The edit to a videogame rom can include all sorts of things. It can involve changing the music, sprites, dialogue, miscellaneous graphics, stats, and just about anything else. Sprites and dialogue tend to be the things that are editted in most hacks, but some of them do other things such as fixing a glitch that was present in the original (this has been done with various glitches in FF6). JonBound happens to be one of my favorite hacks. |

I don't think I've ever pirated a game, unless it was a really old and impossible to find one (like that Sailor Moon SNES RPG) or one that I already owned/was planning on buying (I played a japanese ROM of Pokemon Sapphire a bit before that got released, and then I bought it.)
I guess it's stealing in a way, because you get the game without paying for it, so that's where the term "piracy" comes from... but it's wrong either way. |

ehm... Virtual Console... GameTap... Sonic-Collections... MegaMan Collections... MetalSlug Anthology... XBox Arcade... i could go on
Unless it is a game that is really been forgotten, your argument doesn't really hold water |
I agree with that. (i've probably put around $80 into VC already. >.>; |

Developers don't steal from you, why steal from them?
(p.s. it's okay to steal from sony) |
But it's A-OKAY to sell outdated games that are ridiculously overpriced, or games that are not at all worth what you're paying for them? Let's look at these GBA pokemon games. They're a few years old, and they're still going strong at $30 bucks. The only reason they can get away with that is because people keep mindlessly buying them. Not to mention all of the terrible half assed games that people are trying to drop off on you for what is it now, 60 - 70$ a pop? You think pirating a game or two from some of these companies that virtually rob us is immoral, how about this? If people were getting these games illegally in protest, the companies would be forced to sell their product at a reasonable price.
And then of course there's "abandon-ware" which can range from anything to Atari to SNES depending on who you ask, but I guess we won't go into that for now. Because five bucks for some of this NES games is a very very fair price!
Now, I'm not saying I stick to any of these opinions like glue, but in a sense I'm playing as the devil's advocate. |

Zing!
I don't care about piracy at all. Sure, it's not fair to steal from companies that develop games, but who cares? It's not like one little game I could buy for 5 bucks at a bargain bin matters to the company at all. It's not like since people are pirating all these big companies are going to lose noticeable amounts of money.

Though people who pirate current gen or last gen games really do bother me. That's when it's too far, since you could easily find... say... Halo. But there is a crapload that still download it. |

Yeah that bothers me. It's hard as hell to play current gen games on the computer, and you might as well just go out and BUY it. Really, only games below 4th gen are worth it, since it's hard to find them and they're easy to play on a computer. |

I've used pirating before, but only for old shows that can't be seen on tv anymore, and that have yet to be released on dvd or video. Other than that, I don't really bother. |

Bleh, the younger generations are spoiled. You treat it like N64/GBA are archaic. |

I've changed my mind. I'll go into the matter.
I have: GBA, N64, PSX, SCD, Genesis, GG, SMS, SNES, NES, and GB/GBC ROMs.
Yay, now people can bitch at me for having this stuff on my hard drive. |
