No, it's not impossible, just use good timing and keep the wind behind you.
After you get all three, you get a Rainbow Star. That's how you beat the chomp. |

I'm at 117, I believe. I can't find the last 3 purple coins on Freezeflame, and it's driving me nuts! I also beat the Toy Time purple coins, and for some reason I have to do it again. Grargh. The last star is the other lava galaxy. |

Those three purple coins had me stuck for a while. I can't explain very well where they are, but it's after you use the Ice Flower for the 1st time, and then, in a wood platform with a ? Block, move in the direction of the screen. You should see some Toads that are near the last 3 Purple Coins.
Oh, and I have 116. I still need 4 Purple Coin Stars, including Toy Time and Melty Molten Galaxies. |

Heres a hint for them
Melty Molten:There are coins in the volcano.
Toy Time:Stick to a path that circles the field and stick to tiles that have Purple Coins.Only use bare tiles if you need to. |
