Actually, the official OoT manga explains it as that Sheik is a seperate person from Zelda, sort of, but he was created just to be half of Zelda. So, she allows a seperate person, that she created, to possess her body at her will. She knows he possesses her, but he does not know that he is her, and he does not know that he possesses her. He thinks he is a seperate person even though he is not.
Basically, Sheik is indeed male, Zelda is indeed female, they share seperate minds (Zelda is aware of Sheik, Sheik isn't aware of Zelda) and only one can be living in the one body at one time. o_O; |

OoT manga explanantion = official explanation. I think. Maybe they did decide to change Sheik to female.
Plus, even if Zelda doesn't use sex-change magic, she definitely uses steroids magic. Girls just don't get that bulky, unless they're fat, or use steroids. o_O Which Sheik isn't fat.
