Bonus stage:

The plot is Phil Argus would've preferred a life without wacky shenanigans and animated slapstick. Instead, he is forced to weather the storm of a brilliant but extremely dense inventor (Joel), an obsessed fangirl (Elly) who idolizes Joel, and a robot (Rya) who hates everyone and everything (including cupcakes and Arbor Day!!). As can be expected of shows with vague descriptions, crazy science fictional happenings take place, and all types of terrifyingly lame villains challenge them, from lazy aliens to fired mailmen to angsty teenagers to the Devil himself.

Count Bleck finds himself wandering. Eventually, he senses something amiss. And then...

"PLTGHPTGHTGHPLLTHGRRRRRG! OW! Says Count Bleck!" ...He came to hit his head on a strange, metal, broken, egg-like thing.

The attack was powerful enough to wipe out the barrier, but as it shattered, the man released a burst of energy, knocking Shadow and Sonic backwards. They got up quickly, both looking a little dazed.

"This one means business!" said Sonic, rubbing his arm.

"Hmph." Shadow's hands became fists. "Just stay out of my way while I give this guy the beating of his life." He dashed forward, punching every bit of the man that he could reach. The cloaked figure didn't even have time to react, and was driven back. Finally, Shadow finished his assault with a powerful kick to the chest that sent the man crashing into one of the liquid-filled tubes. The glass shattered, and the contents spilled out over the man, who, screaming in pain, vanished in a flash of shimmering light soon after.

"About time," said Shadow, running up the stone steps. The Death Egg had started to shake again, and the heat in the room was now nearly unbearable.

"Hang in there!" Sonic called to Articuno, as the room gave a particularly nasty throb, and the heat intensified even further.

Shadow reached the top of the steps, reached out, and took the Chaos Emeralds.

"There's no more need to worry about him, or anyone else, Sonic - everything's fine now." Shadow smirked. "It's good to be back..." The seven emeralds spun around him, like a multicolored roulette wheel.

"Chaos... Control!"

There was a flash of lightning, which consumed all three of them, and when the light cleared, they were directly outside of the ruined Death Egg, half of which was now covered in a pillar of flames.

"There's not much time!" shouted Sonic, trying to keep balance as Mobius continued to shake. "Wait... who's that?" he said, spotting Count Bleck nearby.

"FORGET IT SONIC! JUST CONCENTRATE WITH ME... BOTH OF YOU!" Shadow bellowed, struggling to make himself heard as the fire crackled loudly behind them.

Shadow rose into the air. The black part of his fur became pure gold, which reflected like metal in the fire...

"We will use our power, along with the emeralds, to banish this inferno once and for all!"

I was concentrating, I knew it would help them, but would it be of any use to me?

The two dead Pure Hearts rose out of my bag, and began to circle with the Emeralds.

Not only did I feel more powerful, but the Pure Hearts, yellow and gray, respectively, were fully revitalized.

OOC: Stupid time zones and dumb wedding of an aunt I've never even met. Someone help me place Timpani in a place relevant to the current plot with people from the Sonic universe. Kinda stuck in that burning town.

Woosh! Suddenly, a plot hole dropped Timpani on Articuno!

"Ouch!"

OOC: There you go, Timpani. And Nario, there ARE mario characters. *points to Bleck, Dimentio, and Timpani*

(( The Mario characters are/will be in the story too... after all, this is ALL of the various video game worlds that have begun to fuse... ))

Sonic concentrated as well, feeling the power flow through him. He felt incredibly charged - in fact, his fur had become a soft, yellowish gold. He, too, rose into the air, so that all three of them were now flying.

"Let's end this!" shouted Sonic, his spiked hair whipping about as though caught in a furious gale. There was an incredible burst of rainbow light, and all nine magical objects floated into the air, high above them all. A shimmering dome of light seemed to spread over all of Mobius, and then...

As soon as the phenomenon had came, it was gone. The light faded, the Pure Hearts and the Chaos Emeralds floated back down to the ground once more, and the temporary magical force left the three companions, rejoining with their host forms.

"It's... gone," said Sonic, looking around in all directions. "The inferno has been banished. Then Mobius really has been saved...?"

"Yes," said Shadow, arms crossed and eyes closed. He seemed to be deep in thought. "I'm just wondering about that cloaked man that tried to stop us back in the Death Egg..."

"Hey, lighten up!" Sonic patted Shadow on the shoulder. "Of course he's something to wonder about, but we've just saved Mobius. So many lives have been saved thanks to you, Shadow, old buddy!"

Shadow shrugged off Sonic's hand from his shoulder. "Don't call me buddy, Sonic. How many times have I told you?! Look, just meet me back at the village." He turned, and sped off.

"... Well, I guess we'd better follow him, then," commented Sonic, watching Shadow fade off into the distance.

I watched the beautiful colors of the Pure Hearts once more. I realized that Sonic and Shadow could help me save the other worlds, too.

...

After I had made it back to the village with the two Pure Hearts, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

"Sonic, Shadow, Mobius wasn't the only world fused by this catastrophe. There are more worlds in danger. You... The Emeralds... That kind of power is what we need to find out what's going on here.

So, what do you say, will you join me?"

[Celeste Dimentia]

Amy had walked over to the group, looking relieved. "The fire had nearly reached the village, when it vanished... you've done it, then?"

Sonic nodded. "With the help of these two. But listen, Amy... I have to go for a while. There's so much more work for me to do... Mobius isn't the only thing in danger anymore."

"Very well..." Amy said, looking apprehensive. "I'll watch after the fuzzies here in the village. But please, be careful!"

Sonic grinned at her reasuringly, then looked over at Articuno. "Of course I'll join you. I never did get your name, by the way!"

Shadow had his back turned to them both. "So... this is how it's going to be. I knew there had to be more to this... somehow, I could just feel that there was more out there, beyond Mobius - beyond the life we've always known."

"Come on, Shadow..." Sonic looked over at him. "We need you on our side, too!"

"Yes, yes, fine," said Shadow, without turning around. "It's going to be a long, hard journey... so just be sure that you're prepared."

"I always am!" replied Sonic.
