Some clarifications:

CPU is the current bottleneck, not Bandwidth.
That means that the most used features are the problem. If a feature is not being used, then it is not using an CPU.
Search is the biggest consumer of CPU because eventually the search-database gets huge and takes alot of work to scan over all the info. If a lot of people search, then the site will crawl.
Everything that has to be displayed with posts (like your current items) carries a heavy cost because it is loaded thousands of times a day. Using items isnt that big of a deal because it doesnt happen that often.
Anything that is updated everytime there is a post is a huge cost. For example, when you post, it used to update the last-post info on the Forum list. Instead of doing that for every post, I now just update the last-post once a minute.

Google Search costs me nothing, not even bandwidths.
