My Wii scared me a little today. My USB hard drive I use with it can be a little slow at times, so I ordered a USB Y-cable to see if it wasn’t getting enough power from the Wii’s USB 2.0 port. I went to try it out, and the Wii’s AC adapter did not like it for some reason. The power light went out and the power button stopped responding. I had to unplug the AC adapter for two minutes to reset it, and thankfully everything is fine now. Lesson learned to not fix what isn’t broken, I suppose.

I suspect the root problem might actually have been the drive entering sleep mode early when used with the Wii. I messed around in the proprietary WD drive software and may have found a workaround by just ditching sleep mode altogether.

Weird, did the power go out at any point the night before? I’ve had problems where my Wii gets poor connection with the ac adapter after a short outage

I don’t think so, but I was out for a while, so maybe I just didn’t notice. I’m glad everything’s still fine now.
