Guns and Close Combat Explained with Simple Drawings

A few months back, a thread appeared online in Japan with a simple question: How do you get out of a situation like this? The ensuing answers proved one thing: Don't ask people whose only experience is based on video games, comic books, and movies. The somewhat simple drawing showed a figure with two guns to his or her head, and the person who drew it lightheartedly said there was concern about traveling to America (or wherever). Commenters said things like "duck!" or "Knock the guns out of both their hands". One person suggested dodging bullets like they do in The Matrix (below). That, however, didn't seem to work, either. And another person said to call a superhero. Late last week, those same simple drawings once again appeared on 2ch, Japan's largest forum. This time, the individual began talking about how in (relatively) recent movies and games like Splinter Cell: Conviction, it's becoming increasingly popular for characters to hold guns like this: Someone on 2ch pointed out that this style is called "Center Axis Relock" or "C.A.R.", and it's used for close quarters combat. That leads us to yet another drawing of someone with a gun to the head. And that leads us to this. Which is probably more like this: So how do you get out of a situation like that? You probably don't! A simple answer that doesn't need simple drawings. こういう時の対処方を教えてくれ [くるくる] この銃の撃ちかた、流行りそうで流行らなかったな [サウザンドアイズ] Kotaku East is your slice of Asian internet culture, bringing you the latest talking points from Japan, Korea, China and beyond.
