Blizzard has opened pre-orders for the PlayStation 3 version of its PC hit Diablo 3, offering an exclusive in-game item as an incentive for early adopters.

Submit a Diablo 3 pre-order at Amazon, GameStop, or Wal-Mart and you'll receive the Infernal Helm, a helpful piece of equipment that boosts the amount of experience your characters earn in battle. It's equippable by all classes and has no level requirement, making it especially valuable at the game's outset.

"We've poured blood, sweat, and hellfire into creating an epic Diablo 3 experience for PlayStation gamers," said Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime. "In addition to including all the improvements from the PC version over the past year, we've made several updates to Diablo 3 for play on the PS3. We got a ton of positive feedback from players who tried the game at PAX East, and we can't wait to get it into everyone's hands later this year."

Diablo 3 has been overhauled for its console debut, and boasts a redesigned control scheme, tweaked boss fights, and local and online multiplayer modes for up to four players. A specific release date for the PlayStation 3 version of Diablo 3 has not been announced.
