If there is one thing we have learned about the world of Bioware's Dragon Age: Origins, it's that it is a bloody, brutal and often disgusting place. While things might appear serene and even peaceful at the beginning of the launch trailer -- a CG-only affair entitled "Sacred Ashes" -- things get very hairy, very quickly. From grisly sword fights to man-eating spiders to exploding dudes, there's enough mayhem to slake the deepest of bloodthirsts. We're talking Tarantino here. Enjoy.

What peril lies in wait on the blistering cold path to the sacred tomb of legend?

Two things came to mind when we first laid eyes on Dragon Age: Origins' gelatinous boss, the Brood Mother: Wow, it's been a long time since we've seen Blade Man, she really looks like Sting's uncle But, we digress. The new villain is gigantic in size, has a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth, and has more teets than the most blood-thirsty cow. It's, uh, pretty much a really disgusting thing.

The Brood Mother's hungry and she wants a taste of your flesh.

EA has announced a selection of downloadable content for Dragon Age: Origins, which will conveniently be available right at launch. However, unlike most launch DLC, which elicits complaints of ripping off customers by holding back content that clearly could have been on the disc, most of this DLC is intended only to rip off people who buy used copies of the game. The "Stone Prisoner" DLC, which includes a new Golem character, has been previously announced as free to new buyers and $15 to those who don't have the code in the box, or buy it past the April 30 cutoff date. The "Blood Dragon Armor," which offers a new suit of, well, armor, will also be included. No price is given for a non-bundled download of this armor. The "Warden's Keep" download offers an entirely new "dungeon-exploring adventure" with exclusive items and even new player abilities. This will be $7 to download, or free to people who buy the "Digital Deluxe Edition" of the game. The fact that no reference is made to the packaged collector's edition, and the fact that it seems to have disappeared from both GameStop and Amazon make us question its status. We're checking with EA about that -- and thinking of something else to put on the wall where we had planned to hang that cloth map.

Through a joint collaboration with IDW Publishing and EA's new EA Comics brand, comic versions of Dragon Age and Army of Two will find themselves on shelves and available for download on iTunes in monthly runs. The comics will be backed by some pretty heavy hitters; Orson Scott Card will be penning the story for Dragon Age and veteran Peter Milligan will be handling the story for Army of Two, which is due to start its run sometime in January 2010.There's no information on the Dragon Age comic at this time, however we know the events of the Army of Two bromic (see what we did there?) will bridge the gap between the conclusion of the first game and the events of The 40th Day.

We almost got through an entire Dragon Age: Origins trailer without crazy industrial music! Almost! Though the latest trailer for BioWare's upcoming fantasy RPG introduces us to an interesting new NPC in Zevran, we were really hoping to enjoy the video without any wildly anachronistic music. As you'll find out, Zevran appears to be a man of the ladies, both wooing them in his later life and growing up around ... um ... ladies of the night, if you will. We look forward to making his acquaintance -- preferably without inappropriately placed music -- when the game releases on October 20.

Zevran has done more than his fair share of murdering in his day.
