How does Rage fit into Id’s history? Bethesda attempt to explain in a new video, which you can see below. There’s some new Rage footage, but also footage of a bunch of classic Id games, providing a bit of perspective on where Id went after Wolfenstein. The video has Carmack, Hollenshead and others doing a bit of talking, and there’s a crumb of insight on the megatexture tech, and how that will – apparently – be exploited properly in Rage.

Rage is starting to look interesting, I think.(more…)

Heartening news from Sir Carmack, lord of pixels: preliminary id design discussion about the next Quake game has turned up a hankering to return to the Gothic, semi-fantasy setting and vibe of the original Quake. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty damned bored of bio-mechanical environs and beasts after id Tech 4′s quad-whammy of Doom 3, Quake IV, Prey and Quake Wars, so something potentially a little weirder rather takes my fancy.(more…)

Bethesda and id Software have delayed the release of Rage by one month, according to the game's official website...

It's been a long road for Rage... are you willing to walk it for a little longer?

At this point, if you've been anxiously waiting to sink your teeth into id Software's long-in-development apocalyptic shooter Rage, what's one more month of downtime in the grand scheme of things? Today, id Software adjusted Rage's release date on the game's official site, pushing the game to October 4 from its original September 13 launch.

What's the reasoning behind this final delay? id has not provided any rationalization for this last delay, though some are speculating that the push is designed to keep Rage away from the September launch of Gears of War 3. Rage was originally due out just a week before Gears (out September 20), but this delay sets id's new IP to release on the same day as Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, The Darkness II and Dark Souls. Publisher Bethesda might have decided that Rage has a better chance of standing out against those titles rather than an established franchise like Gears. Of course, it's also entirely possible that the delay has more to do with last-minute technical fixes or certification submission.

Either way, a one month push is hardly the most significant delay this series has had. Just take the extra time to let your anger and frustration seethe! When your anger blooms into full-blown Rage, you'll be in the perfect mindset to play id's new game.

The last known release date for iD Software's apocalyptic FPS Rage was September 13, as announced last year. Apparently, however, iD needs a bit more time to get things nice and apocalyptic (and, um, to get out of the way of Gears of War 3, we're guessing).

The official site now lists the release date as October 4. The European release date has been bumped to October 7. We don't know how to react to this news that the game has been delayed. Like, we don't know what emotion to feel.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

We're only months away from the launch of Rage, id Software's new shooter. Rage has been wowing for a while now with its incredible visuals, and the recent reveal of its vehicle-based multiplayer was certainly a bit of a surprise. Though it's still very much a first-person shooter, you will have more options for customization in Rage than you might be used to in id games...

It doesn’t seem right, watching two of the calmest developers you will ever lay eyes on talk about a game called Rage, but that’s exactly what you’ll find after the jump. Apparently intercepted on their way to a bikram yoga class, these two were happy to spend plenty of time answering questions about The Authority, the corporate future-bastards you’ll be fighting in Rage alongside all those grubby mutants. I’m not sure, but I think this game looks prettier every time they release footage of it.(more…)

Perhaps you'll be able to make sense of Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin trying desperately to get a role in id Software's upcoming FPS, Rage? We certainly can't. Logical or not, we'll admit it: we chortled.

#huh The tie-in between reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Blake Griffin and Rage, the forthcoming post-apocalyptic first person shooter from id Software and Bethesda Softworks, eludes me. Griffin's last (and only) video game gig came on the cover of NCAA Basketball 10, canceled four months after release. Maybe he's seeking redemption? Maybe he hung onto his mo-cap suit and wants to find a use for it? Maybe Bethesda had some money laying around in its marketing budget? More »

What is Rage? Rage is an upcoming first-person shooter (FPS), mixed with some role-playing game (RPG) elements. It comes from id Software, the developer that gave the world Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake. So when id comes out with a new game, the world takes notice. When id comes out with a new franchise like Rage, the world pays even closer attention (especially because it's running on a brand-new engine)...
