Apotheon is one of the more interesting games on the horizon. It’s a stunningly pretty action RPG set in ancient Greece, where you’ll wander an open-world Mount Olympus as you attempt to overthrow Hera. It’s from Alien Trap Games, who made the splendid Capsized, and they’ve just announced that if you pre-order Apotheon you’ll get Capsized for free.(more…)

Capsized starts out like a metroidvania game, but you soon find yourself swarmed by hordes of enemies, looking for levers while being carried away by a hot air balloon with teeth. You know what, it's hard to explain, you should just watch the video.Read more...

Capsized will crash onto iPad in early January 2012 for free -- a price that seems almost alien. The game will support this exotic price point with a "robust in-game currency system," so players can make purchases and upgrades to weapons, skills and other stats.

The free action and exploration title has also been revamped for the touch-based device, and will retain more than a dozen non-linear levels. It also has the story-based campaign, along with other modes found in the for-pay versions.

Capsized is also expected to explore Xbox Live Arcade in December (for $10), along with PSN, Android and Mac platforms sometime in the first quarter of next year.

Errant space explorers can only hope to wind up stranded on an alien planet as lush and beautiful as the one in Capsized -- though we'd understand if they also wished for a destination less deadly. The action-packed indie platformer, initially developed by Alientrap and now ported to Xbox Live Arcade by Koolhaus Games, is set to launch on Microsoft's service in December.

IndiePub set the new release window today, almost two years after we first learned of Capsized's XBLA ambitions. The game's hand-drawn blend of exploration, grappling, flight and puzzle solving has impressed critics since April, when it debuted on PC through Steam and Alientrap's website.

The Xbox Live Arcade version of Capsized isn't a straight port, IndiePub says, with enhanced graphics, exclusive levels and further downloadable content being readied for the console version. It's been a long wait, but it sounds like Xbox players are in for a treat.

Independent development can be a long and laborious road, but Capsized creator Lee Vermeulen is hoping to make it a little smoother with Indievania, a new open platform where developers can sell and promote their indie darlings. Indievania is a direct-to-fan, DRM-free platform, where developers will interact directly with potential players, eliminating any middle-men and their exorbitant fees. In beta, Indievania is currently offering four games, BEEP, Steel Storm, and two of Vermeulen's Alientrap creations, Capsized and Nexuiz Classic.

Indievania will host alpha, beta and prototype game versions for developers to raise title awareness, and asks only 9 percent for hosting a game, much lower than the industry-standard 30 percent. Payments are only accepted through PayPal now, but Vermeulen plans to add Google Checkout and Amazon Payments later. Developers can submit a game and have it selling within one day, with complete control over their store page and price. Games will be featured, front-page style, according to popularity or overall quality.

Indievania sounds like a wonderful opportunity for independent developers -- at least, unlike Dracula's -vania, we don't think it will completely suck.

If the first five months are any indication, 2011 is shaping up to be a great year for indie games. The latest impressive contribution comes to us from Lee Vermeulen and Jesse McGibney of Canada's Alientrap Games. This two-man team's modest 2D platformer, Capsized, is surprisingly polished and in a ...

Alien Trap are a Candian indie dev from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I know! You like them already, right? Well, here’s an even better reason to like them- their debut commercial game, Capsized, is far too beautiful for the likes of you and me. Could any game live up to those visuals? Well, this one does. F***! Holy s***! P************! I’ve just spotted over at the industrious (and freshly resdesigned!) IndieGames blog that gorgeous looking indie platformer Capsized is getting released on Steam in just ten hours. I’m also seeing now that as well as the campaign, it’s shipping with a collection of arcade modes- Co-op, Deathmatch, Survival, Time Trials and “Armless Fighting”, whatever that is. Two players sat side by side, controlling the game by mashing the keyboard with their faces? We can only hope. The launch trailer follows. Take a look! Take a look, and then pre-order.(more…)

Oh thank goodness. I’ve just completed the completely excellent Shadow Complex on my 360, and am absolutely craving more 2D side-scrolling Metroid-influenced fun. Just in time we receive information about Capsized, a new 2D side-scrolling platformer that’s reaching Steam this Friday. Along with a copy to play. And playing it I am. I’ll let you know what I think of it on Friday when it comes out, but in the meantime you can watch the trailer below. Oh, and fill the comments with suggestions of other games that might fill my Shadow Complex-shaped hole.

Indie developer Alientrap's Capsized has certainly captured our attention with its art style. IndieGames took note of the title and its early footage, which is giving off an Exile and Metroid vibe, but its lush setting and arcade-like action certainly appears to separate it from that pack. The game is planned for a 2010 launch on Steam and XBLA. We're currently following up with the Alientrap more details about the game, which is currently seeking play testers on PC. Check out the first trailer, which isn't shy on the gameplay footage, after the break. [Via GameSetWatch]
