Earlier this year I made it a mission to get myself a racing wheel that I could use both on PC and Xbox 360. It turned out to be an exceedingly difficult, if not impossible, task. For one, Microsoft discontinued its own peripheral and most PC wheels simply won't operate with the Xbox 360. But now, with Forza Motorsport 4 on the horizon, there are four different options coming to market...

#vroooom There's been a wired Xbox 360 steering wheel for years now. I should know, there's one in my closet gathering dust. There's now a wireless Xbox 360 steering wheel. Think Mario Kart's plastic wheel, only a lot more expensive. More »

Forza 4 will arrive with head-tracking through Kinect -- that we knew. What we didn't know, however, is that the game will park at retailers on October 11, as announced during this morning's E3 2011 Microsoft press conference.

A Turn 10 rep took to the stage to detail the game's new features, including a slew of community items and the Kinect functionality. Other than a new teaser, however, the most pertinent news was the game's planned October launch.

There are two things that every discerning gamer needs to see in the Major's Minute video posted below. First: the Kinect-based head tracking features of Forza Motorsport 4, which look exceptionally neat. Second: the steely, Earnhardtian gaze of Major Nelson behind the wheel of a virtual stock car.

Despite the fact that retailers will assuredly have plenty of extra copies of Forza 4 when it arrives at retail, perhaps you're interested in pre-ordering the game long before its planned fall launch? Well that's just peachy, 'cause today Microsoft announced pre-order bonuses that folks can pick up at a variety of retailers.

Unfortunately -- as has become de rigeur as of late -- rather than making it so fans of the series can actually acquire all the pre-order items that they're nicely plunking down money for ahead of time, various retailers have exclusive in-game content that can only be attained through a pre-order at their stores. In essence, this means that folks who pre-order Forza 4 at Target are locked out of the bonuses being offered at Amazon, GameStop, Walmart, and Best Buy... at least, unless the retailer DLC is offered later through XBLM.

At very least, fans who pick up the game (at any store) around its launch later this year will snag a quintet of free vehicles in the "Ship Bonus" car pack, listed alongside the aforementioned pre-order items below the break. The car pack will only be free to folks purchasing the "first production run" of Forza 4, so be sure to choose your fastest supercar for shuttling to the local brick and mortar.

#forzalopnik Three hits of news on the Forza 4 front today. First, Turn 10 Studios has revealed the official shot of the game box art. Second, they've announced that the "Hero car" for the game is the Ferrari 458 Italia. Third, they've announced the five pre-order cars — along with "showroom" shots of each. I can't tell you more about this "showroom" function — or even if it'll be called that in the game — but I can say these are absolutely in-game renderings. More »

Forza 4 was unveiled with a dramatic live-action trailer during tonight's Spike VGAs. The teaser gave an idea of what the game will include -- namely, simulation driving in really fast, expensive cars. Did you expect any less? See it for yourself after the break.

Also, we're guessing that the Kinect functionality that we saw with Forza back at E3 could end up in this forthcoming title. Color us interested, just please, please don't make us pretend there's a steering wheel in our hands. Forza 4 arrives on Xbox 360 in Fall 2011.
