Resident Evil 5 alienated a section of its audience. I know because I'm one of them. Like many, I fell in love with the series many years ago, and that love affair only deepened with every game, reaching its peak with RE:4. But I prefer not to talk about RE:5. It's still a sore point. All I'll say, seeing as you're pushing me, is that much of what I loved about the series was absent -- the incremental sense of dread, menacing locations, relentless enemies...

Capcom narrowed the release windows for two of its upcoming games today in GamesCom fact sheets. Resident Evil: Revelations, the 3DS Resident Evil that hasn't been the subject of a scandal yet, and Asura's Wrath, CyberConnect2's dramatic, QTE-filled, Hindu-themed action game, will both arrive in early 2012. It's a pretty weird pairing -- the portable, expressly traditional Resident Evil game and the HD game that reminds us of a Dragon Ball Z spinoff set in India.

Along with these date updates, we have new screenshots of both games. Enjoy the cognitive dissonance from our mashing together of old IP and weird new IP by opening both galleries in new tabs and flipping between them.

If you wanted to boil the gameplay of Capcom's Resident Evil series down to just two aspects, they'd have to be action and puzzle-solving. On the action side of the equation is the series' signature survival horror -- all those tense moments when your heroes are under attack by swarms of zombies...

You wake up in an old mansion. You're confused and a bit disoriented. All you have is your handgun to protect you from the evil lurking around the corner, but ammo is scarce and the stillness in the air is haunting. As you make your way around the mansion, monsters suddenly jump out of closets and around corners, keeping you anxious and on your guard at every moment. The whole experience is new to you, and yet it feels strangely familiar...

Resident Evil Revelations is one of two Resident Evil titles Capcom is bringing exclusively to the 3DS -- the other being Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. The two games, though sold separately, "add up" to a whole Resident Evil game, since The Mercenaries focuses entirely on the arcade minigame f...

In our line of work, we hear "I can't talk about that just yet" fairly often. It's a necessary evil of the job. We do what we can, ya know? So when we stopped by Capcom's E3 2011 booth today to play Resident Evil: Revelations, and a zombie started ravaging Jill Valentine's face, we asked the Capcom rep: "Hey, what's the melee button?"

"We're not talking about melee just yet"

...Oh Capcom, you're adorable.
