The first five minutes of BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea - Episode 1 features plenty of dialgoue, so it should come as no surprise there are spoilers. The DLC returns to the depths of Rapture, but the underwater metropolis is not as you may remember it.

The first of the two Burial at Sea episodes is due this holiday. Check out our video preview for the views of Joystiq big daddy Alexander Sliwinski - again, spoiler warnings ahoy.

The Modern Day Icarus videos that heralded the arrival of Bioshock Infinite were thoroughly enjoyable as far as marketing nonsense goes. Faux documentaries that showed glimpses of the city in the sky, its populace and artefacts, they were entertainingly odd and managed to win my approval despite showing nary a glimpse of the game itself. As the Burial At Sea DLC approaches – and with it a return to Rapture – 2K have released a new video, in the same style, examining the Modern Day Atlantis. It’s not quite as effective, mainly because I expected more than the sort of annoyance I greet Jehova’s Witnesses with when the narrator gravely intoned, “That’s when this happened”.

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea Episode 1, the first of two pieces of downloadable content that return players to BioShock's city of Rapture, will be available this holiday season.

During a recent visit to Irrational Games, studio head Ken Levine said part one will be out "before the holiday" and there's still uncertainty about episode two. Irrational's Director of Marketing Leonie Manshandan said, "It's not done yet, we don't have a date yet."

We covered some of the details (no spoilers) of episode one in our video preview. Episode two will have players take a walk in Elizabeth's shoes. The two packs are priced at $14.99 apiece, but can also be purchased in the BioShock Infinite Season Pass.

Return to Rapture in BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea Episode 1. Heavy on narrative and paced more like the original BioShock, this downloadable content pack reintroduces Elizabeth as a femme fatale with a job that only a gumshoe like Booker DeWitt can handle.

Trying our best to avoid spoiler territory, our video recap of this first of two Burial at Sea episodes covers how this noir-infused DLC tears itself from BioShock Infinite.

The price of a ticket to reach the floating city of Columbia just got a whole lot cheaper. If you're looking to play Irrational Games' latest, BioShock Infinite, the game has been reduced to $20 on the Xbox Games Store. There's no telling whether this is a permanent price reduction or limited-time sale, so if you're interested, you may want to act fast.

BioShock Infinite launched earlier this year and has since issued one DLC pack, the Clash in the Clouds arena combat pack. Another add-on episode, Burial at Sea, is also in the works and takes players down to Andrew Ryan's underwater metropolis Rapture - the setting for the first BioShock game.

Booker, are you scared of deals? Get BioShock, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite right now from Amazon's digital distribution service for $20. Yup, all three.

Not ready to commit to Infinite? Well, then, you could grab Rapture vacation specials BioShock and BioShock 2 for $5. We're not sure anything from the CIrcus of Values costs less.

So take a bathysphere over to Amazon for the BioShock triple pack or dual pack if you're interested. You know, free will and all that.

BioShock Infinite hit the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in March. Now, as if spurred on by the same Manifest Destiny it rails against, BioShock Infinite has come to conquer the Mac.

Though BioShock Infinite was initially developed by Irrational Games, publisher 2K Games has tapped prominent Mac porting house Aspyr Media to handle the OS X incarnation.

Apple devotees hoping to enjoy the adventure can now find BioShock Infinite on both Steam and in the OS X App Store with a price tag of $40. Alternately, Steam codes for BioShock Infinite are available at most Apple game retailers or through Aspyr's GameAgent website, the company says.

Green Man Gaming is offering big discounts on the BioShock series. The original BioShock and the 2K Marin-made sequel, BioShock 2, are $5 each, while BioShock Infinite is down to $20.

The discounts don't extend to the recently released arena combat mode, Clash in the Clouds. Two more add-ons have been announced for BioShock Infinite, including a return trip to Rapture in Burial at Sea and a following episode where players will assume the role of Elizabeth.

It's here! Like a murderous detective leaping from a Skyline, the Bioshock Infinite board game wants to come crashing into your house and help itself to the money in your pockets. It's a pretty exciting proposition—unlike video game tie-ins of movies, board game tie-ins aren't a meritless lake of bilge water. Some, like the Game of Thrones game, are pretty wonderful. So I was really curious sitting down to play The Siege of Columbia for a lengthy playtest. What have we got here? Bilge, or anti-bilge?Read more...

BioShock Infinite garnered wide acclaim this spring for its mind-bending story and fantastic environments. But the announcement of Burial at Sea — a two-part adventure that sets Infinite protagonists Booker DeWitt and Elizabeth in the underwater city of Rapture — might just be Irrational’s most ambitious and exciting project yet. Creative Director Ken Levine kindly took a few minutes from his schedule to answer our pesky questions about the upcoming downloadable episodes.

PlayStation.Blog: What compelled Irrational to return to Rapture for BioShock Infinite’s Burial at Sea DLC episodes?

Ken Levine, Creative Director, Irrational Games: We never wanted to return to Rapture unless there was something new to say; a new story to tell that wasn’t just bringing to life the story that we already told. We found that there was a Booker and Elizabeth story to tell in Rapture that we got very excited about. A fresh new story focused on the main characters of Infinite and the only place it could be was in Rapture.

PSB: What opportunities does Burial at Sea provide in building Rapture that weren’t available in the original BioShock? Has time changed Irrational’s approach to designing the city?

Ken Levine: There were a few changes. First of all, we have the ability to populate the city — from Elizabeth to all the people going about their business. Which we couldn’t before. We could only have a few AI’s in the scene in BioShock 1. We also built a much larger scale of space and we put a lot more detail in the world. For instance, in BioShock 1, every scene at the window was basically just 2D art and 2D backdrops that look like 3D. They were cycloramas basically. Whereas now the city outside is actually 3D assets.

PSB: How will the Burial at Sea episodes fit into the larger narrative of the BioShock universe? Will the two Burial at Sea episodes be chronological in structure? How much time will have passed between them?

Ken Levine: That’s for me to know and you to find out.

PSB: How have the Vigors/Plasmids and weapons changed in Burial at Sea? Have they been balanced to reflect the new play environment, or will they work largely as they did in Infinite?

Ken Levine: The combat is quite different in Burial At Sea than it was in Infinite. There are smaller scale combats that give the player much greater opportunity to observe the space ahead of time and set up the combat situation to his or her taste. Therefore traps become much more meaningful than they were in Infinite. So stealth becomes a larger component. We generally think combat is a little more deadly but a little less frenetic.

PSB: Elizabeth is playable in the second chapter — to what extent? In Infinite, Elizabeth provided a lot of active support but rarely attacked — have you had any difficulty transforming a loveable NPC into an FPS protagonist?

Ken Levine: It’s very important to us that playing as Elizabeth feels very different from playing as Booker. She’s a different person, and having gone through the experiences of Burial At Sea: Episode One has a substantial effect on her too. So we’re spending a lot of time working on how she feels and how she plays.

BioShock Infinite's Burial at Sea DLC is a noir nostalgia trip to Rapture, the city in the ocean featured in BioShock 1 and 2, and Elizabeth's outfit gets an update befitting the new theme. Irrational provides an image of Elizabeth in five angles, ostensibly so cosplayers can start planning their sewing equipment accordingly. Get a (much) closer look here. There's no word on if we'll get a sneak peek of Booker's new threads, too.

Burial at Sea is in two episodes, both set in Rapture two years before it falls to ruin. The first episode stars Infinite protagonist Booker Dewitt, and the second stars Elizabeth. Players will get new plasmids and vigors, new weapons, dimensional tears, Big Daddies and skylines - and, of course, a new perspective on Rapture.

Episodes one and two are $15 each, with a release date on its way.

For Irrational Games and the company store's new limited-run vigor replicas, the devil is in the details. Five hundred, numbered "First Edition" units of the replica bottles are now available for sale, with each 9" tall bottle priced at a steamy $350. In-game replica aficionados can nab one of fifty limited bottles signed by Irrational Games' Creative Director, Ken Levine, for the red-hot price of $600.

Even though he just announced DLC that will bring players back to the iconic undersea metropolis of Rapture, Ken Levine says he doesn’t feel trapped inside the BioShock franchise. In so much as there’s a template for Levine’s signature first-person games, he says it he’s not interested in re-using it “unless I think of an interesting way.” “That’s what it always is,” Levine told me. “I didn’t think I was going to do another BioShock game until we found an interesting way.”Read more...

Take-Two Interactive chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick has revealed that BioShock Infinite has sold more than 4 million units since its release last March. This comes hot on the heels of the first-person shooter's new DLC and the announcement of an impending return to more nostalgic, sub-aquatic pastures.

"BioShock Infinite is North America's best-selling multiplatform release so far this year, according to NPD," Zelnick said during an investor conference call following the release of Take-Two's financial results for the first quarter of its fiscal 2014. "The title has crossed the 4 million units selling mark, and we expect it to become the top-selling release in the BioShock franchise."

The first piece of BioShock Infinite downloadable content will be an arena combat mode called Clash in the Clouds. Available for a mere $5, the DLC will launch around noon today on Steam for PC, with the Xbox 360 and PSN versions being pushed to their respective marketplaces as soon as possible (could be today, could be shortly).

At its core Clash in the Clouds is arena mode. Players will gain access to four different maps, fighting 15 waves of enemies in each, earning varying amounts of money based on how they fight (headshots give a slight bonus, along with chain kills). Between each wave, players will be able to restock. There are also "blue ribbon challenges," which require defeating a wave in a particular way (ex. shotguns only, only use scoped weapons in scope mode).

The cash earned is banked and can be used to open up items in The Columbian Archeological Society, which is the hubworld for the mode. Players will be able to unlock concept art, Lutece backstory Voxophones, Kinetoscopes and more.

From my brief experience with the mode yesterday, I was able to break it a couple times. After failing a blue ribbon challenge I decided to "restart checkpoint," but it turns out you can't restart a wave, so you'll be dropped back to the hubworld. After that I couldn't access the world and required a restart. After restarting I bought a vigor, which didn't show up in my menu.

Overall, the DLC features four maps, 15 encounters per map and a ton of unlocks for a mere $5. It may not be the BioShock DLC season pass holders were expecting out of the gate, but it's good if you're looking for combat challenges in the world of Columbia.
