We feel for Krieg, the recently introduced sixth vault hunter in Borderlands 2. His calm inner voice fights to be heard, while his psychotic outer voice screams things like "I'm the conductor of the poop train!" This short has its funny moments, but it's also quite sad.

While Krieg's already available, Borderlands 2 is due another piece of DLC in the form of Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep. That arrives on June 25 for 800 MSP/$10.

"What's initiative?" asks Brick, the hulking bruiser from the original Borderlands. He's seated with Mordecai, Lilith and Tina, all hunched over a table-top roleplaying game - not unlike Dungeons & Dragons - called Bunkers and Badasses.

As the tabletop game gets underway, players are thrust into "Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep," the latest DLC campaign for Borderlands 2.

It’s ok if you’ve never played Dungeons and Dragons before. You can still appreciate Borderlands 2 shoved into a fantasy-trope skin. Why? Because the whole thing is narrated by Tiny Tina with a few eye-rolly comments from Lilith or an adorably clueless remark by Brick. And chances are you’ve played some variation of a fantasy game before, and can find a reason to chuckle at the poofy outfits or the overly dramatized dialogue Borderlands 2 uses to poke fun at the genre. Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep sets you out on a mission to assault the Dragon Keep (surprise, surprise). You're basically acting out a real-life (well, real-life in the game) board game a la Dungeons and Dragons that is led by dungeon master Tiny Tina and played between the original vault hunters. As you wander around and set out on missions, you'll hear Tiny Tina's booming, god-like voice from above, which is fitting since she is the god of your board game realm. And why is all this happening? Because it's cool, of course! But, actually, when the DLC opens and you watch a brief cut scene before the fun begins, you soon realize that Tiny Tina isn't dealing with some tragic events from Borderlands 2 quite well. (Spoilers: Roland's death. /spoilers.) It's her method of coping. That’s the gist of the new DLC but let’s get into some other basic details that you should know about that I learned while playing the game a few weeks ago. Inside Jokes Make Me Feel Warm And Fuzzy Inside Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep—which opens in a new area, favoring a dark blue color palette, called the Unassuming Docks—is the fourth piece of downloadable content that adds to the Borderlands campaign. It is a self-aware game made by people who love games. It’s full of inside jokes and digs at video game staples you’ll all likely recognize. There’s a quest that makes fun of the fake geek girl trope. Except instead of a girl having to prove her nerd cred, it’s the male vault hunters in Borderlands 2 who can’t step up to the likes of Tiny Tina and Lilith. Then there are quests that are references to specific games. Lead writer Anthony Burch tells me Dark Souls is one of the more notable ones. More Of Everything Than In Any Other DLC I’m told there are more new enemies and more content and even more music in this DLC than in any other one released for the sequel in this series. There are trolls and treants and skeleton enemies. There are skeletons with shields. The immortal skeleton has a sword in his back that you have to pull out first in order to kill him, because otherwise he’s immortal. There are golems and, their elite version, unchained golems. Treants can level up as you injure them, so you better kill them quick. It’s a similar concept to the goliaths that turn into badass versions of themselves the slower you take to kill them. There are pixies that are neutral until you activate or shoot them. Shooting them makes them your enemy. Activating them with the tap of a button turns them into your friend, and they’ll fly around and give you buffs like to your health and ammo regeneration speed, and even attack enemies for you. There are also giants. And knights with flaming arrows. And probably a bunch of other creatures and soldiers that I didn’t get a chance to bump into during my hour-ish session with the DLC. Remember the Dark Souls quest I mentioned earlier? And all the other game references embedded into quests? Burch tells me the developers were so excited about the prospect of creating quests to represent their favorite games that everyone wanted a shot at it. So there are more quests in this DLC than any other. And the music? Well extra content needs extra music to support it. And composer Raison Varner is quite the talented person for the task. I wish I could share it with you, but it reminded me a lot of of Hans Zimmer’s score for The Last Samurai. But it’s appropriately moody and whimsical for the fantasy setting. A Gun That Shoots Swords My favorite part was something I didn’t even get to actually see. While I asked lead writer Anthony Burch what sort of new weapons we’d be seeing in this new content, he mentioned guns that shoot objects. Like swords. A gun that shoots swords. Also: grenades that set off massive, elemental explosions. I didn’t get many other details than that, but I certainly can’t wait to kill every boss and ransack every loot chest in search of these wondrous and mystical weapons. All The Little Details To go along with the theme, you’ve got reskinned everything. Some loot chests are decorated with dice. You can roll for legendary weapons, but it’ll cost you eridium. On the other hand, there’s an increased drop rate for eridium. Which goes perfectly with the semi-recent update that lets you increase your ammo upgrade an extra tier for all your weapons. I mentioned new weapons, right? Well how about Tiny Tina-themed weapons. There are slot machines around the new level—which I haven’t seen with my own two eyes just yet—that’ll get you some of those crazier ones. This is also more than likely the last campaign DLC. Of course, if they do decide to do another after this one, it wouldn’t be the first time Gearbox decided, what the hell, here’s more content for you. For now we can guess it may very well be the last. It is, after all, a new console cycle. So Gearbox may want to look ahead by now. Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep will come out on June 25 for roughly 10 bucks. To contact the author of this post, write to tina@kotaku.com or find her on Twitter at @tinaamini.

Borderlands 2's sixth vault hunter, Krieg the Psycho Bandit, is now available across Xbox 360, PS3 and PC for $10. The latest playable character is not part of the Borderlands 2 Season Pass, so don't go thinking grabbing that will net the psycho. Gearbox covered Krieg's skill tree during PAX East, which features more melee and fire upgrades.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick mentioned during a recent investor call Borderlands 2 has shipped over 6 million units and "remains on track to become the highest selling release in the history of 2K."

Hold on to to your hacksaws, folks; the most psychotic vault hunter yet has landed on Pandora. Krieg, the rampage-tastic psycho berserker is now available in the form of a separate character DLC for Gearbox's shooter-RPG. He's not included in the Season Pass, but by the looks of it, there's enough exciting new content in there to justify grabbing him. Krieg, like Gaige before him, comes with a brand new skill tree, and his action skill emphasizes melee, actually rewarding the player for getting shot. The Psycho Pack for Borderlands 2 is out now on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 at a price of 9.99$. You can read our impressions of Krieg here. Questions? Comments? Tomorrow will see the release of another Borderlands 2 playable character, this time hailing from the howling cast of its deranged bandit antagonists. Krieg The Psycho – whose scenery-gnawing behaviours can be seen below in a video I borrowed from VG247 – is a character who is supposed to emulate all of the absurdly dangerous attack actions the bandits perform in Borderlands 2. So expect to run screaming toward your enemy with a big rusty sharp thing, while on fire. Being on fire, of course, is central to his skill tree. Not sure if that will be worth $10, but I will probably take a look tomorrow and see.(more…)

Inspired by the weapon and ammo caches in the game, CrazyLefty has turned his PC into something the wastelands of Pandora could be proud of. The colour scheme is spot-on, but it's the cel-shading effect that really sells it. Not sure how well it'd word with obsessive-compulsive fans though. I can see people needing to cel-shade the rest of their office just to match. I like the added touch of a themed carry-case for the keyboard as well! The first time Gearbox gave us a look at the playable psycho bandit named Krieg, I knew this character was made for me. Krieg is rampage incarnate. He’s off-the-walls crazy. The more carelessly you play, the more damage you can deal. And I just love carelessly shredding into enemies. It’s what Borderlands was made for, as far as I’m concerned. And so there’s no better character to complement this endeavor than big, bad, muscular and very insane (and a little ugly) Krieg. The very accommodating Mr. Mike Fahey captured some footage of said psycho Krieg for you all, which you can see spread throughout this article. Fahey is rocking a level 31 Krieg, and shows you what the bandit-man is capable of in all three of his skill trees. Krieg might be considered a risky character to offer players. It certainly was for Gearbox, lead writer Anthony Burch tells me roughly two weeks ago over a demo of the newest character to Borderlands 2. In fact, Gearbox’s Paul Helquist had the general idea for Krieg thought out even before Borderlands 2 launched. But the Psycho character class is as much high risk, high reward in-game as he is out there in the market. So Borderlands 2 wouldn’t be shipped with this playable hulk of a creature, not when he might turn off some players. Krieg would be saved for downloadable content. He’s going to make you do things that go against the gamer code you were raised by: namely, don’t get hurt. “Well, shit,” I’m thinking. As much as I am dedicated to the Siren class, I would have played as Krieg straight through the game from the get-go if they’d let me. But I’ll settle for extra content on a second playthrough because he’s that amazing. Let me tell you why. I like Zer0, the assassin class in Borderlands 2. He’s neat; he has some neat moves. But he’s the sniper class, and therefore typically at his best when you play as a stealthy killer. While I do enjoy silent and scoped kills, it’s not quite my preferred style. I rather opt for the exact opposite: guns-blazing, face-slicing killing where there’s not a moment’s break. And Krieg lets me be me. The philosophy behind Krieg, Burch tells me, is to put players in an awkward position. He’s going to make you do things that go against the gamer code you were raised by: namely, don’t get hurt. But as Krieg’s shields are down and his health is below a certain percentage and he’s literally on friggin’ fire, he can actually deal more damage. Asking your co-op friends to shoot you in the face is a thing you will (reasonably) request while playing as Krieg, because some skills allot you extra damage as you take damage. Including the friendly fire kind. Bloodlust Krieg’s basic action skill—that one special move that’s specific to his character class—is a melee Buzzaxe swing, shown quite a bit in the videos you see here. But it’s not as simple as that. You can do so much with Krieg, both within the bounds of his action skill and outside of it. On its own, when you enter Krieg’s buzzaxe rampage mode, you’ll immediately regain all your health and swing or throw massive damage at enemies. Sounds fun enough. But if you choose to go for the Bloodlust skill tree, your melee weapon can include a pack of dynamite stuck onto it. Or if you choose to go for the Mania tree, things can really get interesting. You can spec your Krieg to get maximum melee damage, and throw additional skills on top to turn yourself into an ever-rampaging beast. Mania With Mania, your melee damage can multiply by 250% (but you run the 12% risk of smacking yourself in the face in your raging confusion—stupidly hilarious). You can turn into a badass psycho; physically deformed and way stronger than before. Instead of fighting for your life, crawling on the floor like an injured animal, you’ll enter a rage mode where you can flick sticks of dynamite at people, or even go suicide bomber on top of them. In the latter case, if you killed the enemy in the process, you’ll instantly be revived and put right back in the game. You can even set up combat scenarios that give your action skill an instant cooldown. There’s a lot you can do in this skill tree to keep the pace—and your adrenaline—up. Hellborn While I grew to love Mania, Hellborn was the first to catch my eye. This skill tree is all about lighting yourself on fire, and building the tree in a way that gives you bonuses for doing so. You can mold Krieg’s abilities to increase your fire damage, reduce all damage to yourself, and even breathe fire at your enemies like a bloodthirsty dragon. Best part about this skill tree is the many lines of monologue—both somewhat sane but more often crazy—that Burch wrote for Krieg. You can hear some in the video above. Unfortunately there seemed to be a PC bug where the fire-breathing went a little...consistent, but you get the idea. You can see a bit of that in the video above. Bloodlust is more calculated. It's similar to the Mechromancer’s stacking skill tree. As you make kills with your gun, your melee damage increases. As you make melee kills, your grenade damage increases. And as you make kills with grenades, your gun damage increases. You can stack kills by setting off nova explosions that will produce a domino effect if the first explosion manages to kill an enemy. The nearest enemy will die, and then the one next to him, and on and on as long as the damage is lethal. Building Krieg up from scratch doesn’t feel too exciting. Things really get going when you approach the level 30s and have room to play around with your skill tree. Ideally you want to get a healthy mix of two trees. If you haven’t already tired Borderlands 2 out with multiple, multiple playthroughs, Krieg is my new favorite character that's well worth another run. The psycho bandit releases next week on the 14th for roughly $10.

Borderlands 2 will add its sixth Vault Hunter, Krieg the Psycho Bandit, to its ranks on May 14. The date for the DLC was announced in a tweet posted earlier today.

Krieg is the second DLC character added to Borderlands 2, joining Gaige the Mechromancer. Gearbox went into more detail about Krieg's skill trees back at PAX East, revealing him to be a more melee-focused character with fire-based skills.

Coming DLC for Borderlands 2 will be called "Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep." It will launch on June 25 as the fourth pack included in the game's Season Pass, or for $10 (800 MSP) standalone, Gearbox confirmed to Joystiq.

The name of the fourth DLC pack was leaked today in a now-deleted tweet from Gearbox writer Anthony Burch, a screen of which was saved by Stealthy Box. Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep features Tiny Tina herself as the host of a board game.

Today Gearbox acknowledged the next piece of downloadable content coming to Borderlands 2 is indeed named Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep. It's coming out on June 25, either for $9.99 (aka 800 Microsoft points) or for free as part of the Season Pass purchase. The game centers on narrator Tiny Tina, the rambunctious little teenager who loves to make things go boom. She'll set the scene, which is a board game amongst the vault hunters of the first Borderlands, as you play through her quests. I checked the game out last week and will have impressions and more details for you soon. For now, you can check out the intro teaser Gearbox showed off at their PAX East panel this year. Whoops! Looks like the next piece of downloadable content for Borderlands 2 is called "Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep." Borderlands writer Anthony Burch tweeted this picture, which has since been deleted (but not before the folks at Stealthy Box got a screengrab). There in the background is a poster that sure looks like the next piece of BL2 DLC, which developer Gearbox has said will be out in late June. When contacted by Kotaku, Gearbox declined to comment. At PAX East in March, the company showed the character Tiny Tina teasing something—presumably this new DLC. Let this be a lesson to game developers: if you're gonna leak posters of your unannounced games, don't do it on Twitter! Do it on Kotaku. The latest pay-for DLC for Borderlands 2, Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack, will see the level cap raised from the paltry 50 to a dizzying 61. I imagine. It’ll also offer a new tier of weaponry, and a new mode for replaying the whole game. Which is all good. Less good is that Gearbox are promoting this as a “free” expansion for holders of the season pass. Um.

Borderlands 2's "Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack" is available now for $5 (400 Microsoft Points) on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. For those with the Borderlands 2 Season Pass, this piece of DLC is included in the bundle.

The new pack increases the level cap from 50 to 61, unlocks new game ++ with the "Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode" and adds the pearlescent-colored weapons tier. The pearlescent tier is the rarest in the game, which we guess makes it epically uber?

Borderlands 2 is slowly wrapping up its downloadable content with the (not season pass eligible) Psycho Pack this May and a final piece of campaign DLC expected in June.

IGN carry the news that Gearbox are raising the level cap in Borderlands 2, and adding a new difficulty mode and item tier. There is also a short video showing the latest Vault Hunter murdering bandits – he’s a psycho by the name of Krieg. The level cap will be raised to 61, the new mode scales monsters to the highest level in your party and the item tier provides ultra-rare pearlescent gear. That all makes sense, but the prices and distribution are slightly more confusing. The new difficulty mode is free to all but the level cap rise costs $4.99, unless you’re a season pass holder in which case it’s free. Kriege isn’t included in the season pass though and will cost around $10. You can see him below.

The new Vault Hunter for Borderlands 2 teased at SXSW has been revealed at PAX East. Krieg the Psycho will be the game's sixth playable class, and you can see a quick teaser of what he looks and plays like the video above. He's primarily a melee character, but has a few ranged abilities, and can skill up in the combat bonus-centered Bloodlust tree, go insane with the Mania tree, or break out fire-based attacks with the Hellborn tree. Krieg is part of the Psycho Pack, which will be available in May for $9.99, or 800 Microsoft points.

Borderlands 2 is also getting the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade pack on April 2, which will finally raise the game's level cap from 50 up to 61. Unlike the Psycho Pack, this pack will be part of the game's Season Pass content, and will also unlock a third playthrough in the "Ultimate Vault Hunter mode." It'll be available on April 2, for $5.00 (or 400 Microsoft points). And finally, Gearbox teased the game's last piece of campaign DLC at its panel, which it simply announced was due out sometime in June.
