Uh-oh, is this the start of holiday-themed Skylanders for every occasion? This is the first holiday variant we've seen...but I bet it's not the last.

Element: MAGIC

Phrase: Any Last Wishes?

Bio: Ninjini was the most renowned magical ninja from ancient times, long before the Arkeyans ever rose to power. But a dark sorceress, who was jealous of Ninjini's skill as a warrior, trapped her within an enchanted bottle to be imprisoned for all of eternity. Time stretched on, yet Ninjini remained steadfast and determined to escape - even mastering the dual sword technique within the solitude of her bottle. Over the years, her strength continued to grow until alas, through sheer force of will, she broke free! From that moment on, Ninjini made it her mission to help those in need as one of the first Skylanders, always carrying that enchanted bottle as a reminder of her own resilience.

A portion of a Vooks review...

Activision can get away with another game that’s nearly the same this year, but hopefully for Skylanders Swap Force they’ll mix up the main core of the game or it’s very much at risk of getting old.

#toyfair Well, this doesn't look tacky or anything. Skylanders has been giving out exclusive Toy Fair figurines to attendees of the show itself and a couple of preview events last week. Said attendees are not civilians, as Toy Fair is a closed, industry event. But, knowing the demand for these suckers, a bunch have been listed on eBay for Buy-it-Now prices in the four-figure range. Those actually getting bids are seeing them in the $150-$200 range. These have already sold, including one for $250. More »

#skylanders Of all the new figures Toys for Bob introduced in Skylanders Giants, there is one I desire above all others. She's a ninja. She's a djinn. She's Ninjini, and Activision is giving her away free at the Times Square Toys'R'Us on Tuesday, the jerks. More »

A portion of an ONM review...

The gotta buy 'em all mentality is as ferociously addictive as ever, but the delightful characters deserve a more imaginative, better made game.

A portion of an NWR review...

Skylanders Giants is excellent, and the Wii U version is a fine port, but until the near-field communication technology on the GamePad is used in the game, this version is unfortunately hampered.

A portion of a Eurogamer review...

This is still a fantastic idea, realised with charm and passion - and with the reality of the gameplay now much closer to the fantasy being sold, it's an easy recommendation for parents warily eyeing those Christmas lists.

SPROCKET
Element: TECH
Phrase: The Fix is in!
Bio: Sprocket was raised with all the privileges of a rich, proper Goldling. But she cared little for fancy things. Instead, she spent most of her time growing up in her uncle’s workshop, learning how to build and fix his many mechanical inventions. But everything changed on the day her uncle mysteriously vanished. When she eventually discovered that Kaos had been behind his disappearance, she constructed a battle suit and went after him, leaving the luxury and comfort of her family’s wealth behind. From that moment on, Sprocket was dedicated to fighting the forces of evil, while never losing hope that she would be reunited with her beloved uncle.

HOT HEAD
Element: FIRE
Phrase: Hey! I’m on Fire!
Bio: Hot Head had always been a short tempered fire giant. But it was when magical oil was discovered in Skylands that fuel was really added to the fire. As exciting as the discovery was, the celebration lasted only 5 minutes – coming to an abrupt halt when Hot Head needed to cool off and plunged into the thick black pool, causing the entire island to explode! Though it would be another 2,000 years before magical oil was discovered again, the impact that it had on Hot Head was immediate. He was instantly infused with magical oil, giving him the ability to generate an infinite supply of fuel – making him incredibly volatile, highly combustible, and ready to torch anything that got in his way.

FLASHWING
Element: EARTH
Phrase: Blinded by the Light!
Bio: Flashwing’s true origins are a mystery. But her first appearance came when Bash made a wish that he could fly and looked up to see a shooting star streak across the sky and land in a valley below. In the centre of the glowing impact crater was a large, brilliant geode – which suddenly cracked open to reveal Flashwing. Bash may not have soared that day, but his heart sure did, because Flashwing was beautiful… and lethal. As soon as Bash stepped closer, the gem dragon turned towards him. Not knowing if he was friend or foe, she blasted him off of the cliff with a full force laser pulse from her tail! Perhaps Bash flew that day after all.

Developer n-Space was hoping to bring a dungeon-crawling audience to the 3DS with its ambitious Heroes of Ruin, released earlier this year on June 26. But that audience never showed up, according to co-founder Dan O'Leary. "We're not satisfied with the sales," he says in a recent interview. "The 3DS attach rate is... challenging at best and it seems that, for all its promise, Heroes of Ruin did not appeal to enough of the installed base."

O'Leary says the team is proud of its work and wouldn't mind returning to the genre, but also that sales likely won't justify a sequel anytime soon. Meanwhile n-Space is still hard at work, putting together the mobile version of Skylanders Giants for Activision, as well as the 3DS version of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D. And O'Leary says the company has had Wii U development kits for a while, so there may be something brewing along that front in the future.

If you're buying a Wii this November, what are you doing? But if, for some reason, you do end up buying the last-generation console as the new one arrives, you could do worse than the two new bundles revealed today, which will be in North American stores on Nov. 4.

A $129.99 bundle replaces the Wii Sports pack-ins with Just Dance 4. For $20 more, there's the blue Wii with a copy of Skylanders Giants, the Portal of Power peripheral, two figures and an exclusive Giant Skylander. Oh ... no. Someone's going to spend $150 on that Wii bundle just for the exclusive figure. That's going to happen.

Welcome to the fourth consecutive week of FIFA 13 topping the UK Charts. No need to feign surprise. Also, don't expect FIFA's run to end by next week, unless Medal of Honor: Warfighter shocks and awes us all. Then again... there's always Forza: Horizon. Racing games can be a wild card on the UK charts.

The big debut this week was Activision Blizzard's Skylanders Giants. The sequel outdid the premiere of its predecessor with a second place start, while the original Skylanders, Spyro's Adventure, debuted at number 16, but saw great success after.

Bethesda's Dishonored slipped to third and -- there it is! -- the insidious Just Dance 4 keeps working its way up the charts. You can't turn your back on it for a second. Soon it'll be number one and working all that Gangnam Style. Now saddle dance past the break for the UK top ten.

Skylanders Giants, like Spyro's Adventure before it, gives collecting colorful pieces of plastic a purpose. It's a chimerical combination of two passions, and hey, the kids seem to dig it.
