Fans of Mario vs. Donkey Kong certainly get their money's worth from this series, which continually innovates and uproots its foundations, finding new ways to march Minis to their clockwork doom. Just remember to bring your thinking cap and a stress ball. You'll need both.

This is Nintendo charm at its best and in a very tight package. Short nature puzzles, fantastic value and tremendous production value as always makes this the perfect companion on the 3DS if you are interested short bursts of gaming

A stage editor and a suite of minigames fill out a substantial package, a destructive riff on the late Kenji Eno’s You, Me, And The Cubes the highlight of the latter. Only a sense of familiarity dogs an otherwise engaging diversion: the Minis cover a lot of ground in these 180 levels, but at times it’s well-worn territory they’re walking.

Since this game is the outlier for the franchise, it's a great entry point for anyone that wants to dabble in a new take on the age-old battle between Mario and Donkey Kong.

...it shows Nintendo adapting to changes in the online and mobile market that suggest the best is yet to come.

There is no impressive gameplay twist, no mechanic that feels fresh or noteworthy. It may attempt to mesh hectic action with mind-bending challenges, but it doesn't particularly succeed at either.

I applaud Nintendo Software Technology for doing something different with the series, but deep down I’m hoping the next game will return to the Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem formula.

Rather than the fun and addicting challenge of past Mario vs. Donkey Kong titles, Minis on the Move feels more like homework.

What's Hot:
Four tricky modes built around one central concept, frantic puzzle mayhem, mini games, level editor with online capabilities.

What's Not:
Mini games probably won't hold your interest long.

From the moment I picked up Minis on the Move, I fell into a zone, alternating between master tile strategist and rapid-fire course builder. The challenge level is spot-on and the individual stages are cleverly built. These are the hallmarks of great puzzle game design, and Minis on the Move demonstrates them handily.

YOU'LL LOVE
Tons of puzzles to tackle
The methodical problem-solving of the Puzzle Palace mode
An assortment of modes and minigames to break up the pace

YOU'LL HATE
Main gameplay hook feels dated
Incredibly stark presentation
Nothing compelling you to keep playing if you get stuck

Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move is a fresh take on a series that seemed routed in a certain style of design. It is a top-shelf downloadable experience that is even better if you like Pipe Mania (or Pipe Dream or the hacking game in BioShock or whatever you know it as).

Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move retains some of the Lemming-like quality of the more recent MvsDK titles, but the drastic changes to the gameplay have resulted in a faster, more free-form experience. It can be as simple or as mind-bending as you want it to be; either way, you'll be satisfied for many hours on end.
