http://videogamecentral.com/gamersvoice/index.php/2008/nintendo-working-on-creating-an-online-community-that-is-unique-to-nintendo/

Quote:
One thing that Nintendo has been behind on as compared to the other consoles is online play. While they do have an online service, they were behind on adding DLC and more. One other thing that Wii currently lacks is an online community of sorts. We have bits and pieces, like Wii Friends, Mii’s, and things like that… but there just isn’t any sort of community to unite those features. But don’t worry, Nintendo is working it.

“Nintendo has always had a vision on community. The issue is that we define community differently than our competitors…Our consumers do want a sense of community, and we’re going to deliver that — but in a way that’s unique to Nintendo.”

The above quote is from Reggie, who mentions a “unique” online community is coming to Wii. Hopefully it won’t take too long for that time to come.

PLEASE don't screw this up. Nintendo.

And I wonder what the "unique" thing is about their plan.

Who knows? It could be better than the PS3's Home, but would still use Miis.

M'aiq has to doubt it, if it turns out to be Home-esque. If you try to replicate something, you'll always fall short. The most M'aiq can see is the added ability to see what your friends are playing from the Wii Menu.

Eventually, this could lead to Visual Contact via the DSi, and maybe full integration with a satellite system that would not even require a Computer to connect to the Internet. Something similar to the EM Waves in MegaMan Star Force.

Knowing Nintendo nowadays, their "unique" twist will be more friend codes, or some kind of shitty privacy thing so that we have no freedom whatsoever.

Yeah, At PAX I got to test the eta out. It's awsome. Think of a super ramped up version of the message board. But to have any contact with anyone at all you must enter their name, Eye color, House adress, Favortie movie, Code, (20 digits) And grandma's name. Also, You cant say bad words, such as "Meanie" Or "Stupid"
It's also pink.

Nintendo has yet to restore my faith in them, but I'll see how this goes. I'm not exactly holding my breath... but I'm intrigued.

I lol'd.

Sounds like something Nintendo-ish to me. Wouldn't be surprised if that was real. XD

They're gonna have acquaintence codes. Whenever you meet a non friend online, you have to put in a 50 digit codes just to play with them.

FINALLY, it was about time Nintendo came up with this thing too!! (Like the others).
The Wii message board just isn't enough. Hope they study the PS3 one well, so their may be better.
