I've seen how some people act here, and it's abominable. No, no; it's not because they're part of the LGBT crowd. I know people- both in real life and on other sites- that fall under that category. The reason they're acting abominable is because they state they're part of the LGBT crowd and act like complete morons. The way they act would truly disgust the real homosexuals that have fought so long for their rights, only to not be granted them because a minority of stereotypes get all of the attention.
I'm not pointing out any names here. It could be one, it could be many; or, it could be none. The point behind this topic is to get you to think. You see, there is a big difference between "flamboyance" and "homosexuality." A great way to describe this would be this one British comedy skit that was described on the internet by someone a while ago (I never saw it because, of course, I live in the USA). Here it goes:
There's this guy obsessed with "gay culture." He prances around town, willfully speaking swish and wearing outlandish clothing. When people get annoyed at how annoying or ridiculous he is, this man just claims that they're ignorant, and don't understand "gay culture." However, the ironic thing about this is that everyone in his town is gay. Everyone. And, to make it even more interesting, it is suggested that he- the man who is so offended about people not embracing him for being a "true homosexual"- isn't even gay at all, but rather, acting the way he is acting just for the sake of being flamboyant.
Now, of course, I advise you to remember that homosexuals are still seen negatively in the public eye. In the USA- especially in the South- homosexuals are still criticized for just being the way they are. In other countries, you could be hanged for just implying that you are gay. However, there is a third reason for the ongoing prejudice against homosexuals, aside from the widespread publicity of the stereotypes and the ancient (Yet pointless) hatreds held toward gays.
The hypocrites.
You see, plenty of straight people are beginning to accept and defend gays, and this is a great thing. However, even though they are defending them in one place, they often say terrible things in other places, without even thinking about it. I admit, I am guilty of using the term "gay" inappropriately in joking situations, and am trying to move away from that. I may not be guilty of using the term "faggot" (Which is nearly as bad as the "N" word), but I am still guilty of using "actual homosexuality" in joking situations from time-to-time (Actual homosexuality as in making fun of someone for idolizing a certain singer and saying, "Why don't you go make out with him or something?). I understand that it is just joking, but you must remember: people receive things differently than from other people. Some people are still bigots, and using homosexuality jokingly would merely further their bigotry. You could say that "it's just their problem, they need to get over it," but it isn't that simple. It isn't very simple at all to relieve society from a mindset that it held for thousands of years, dictating that a certain group of people are an "abomination." In order to help society, we must watch what we say; we're all guilty of using terminology inappropriately, but it isn't too late to change.
Now, if you're unwilling to read all of that above, here's a simple question for any young homosexuals that may be reading this topic:
Who are you going to be? Are you going to be an overly flamboyant, deluded clown devoting his entire lifestyle to his sexuality, or are you going to live a life filled with variety like everyone else, with the difference being that you are attracted to people of your own sex?
Alright, I think that's enough to start up a discussion. Have at it. |

Yet again, Cid, your topics have actually made me think. Well said.
The thing is, some of the bigots you said could actually be homosexual themselves. When some people realize they have an attraction to the same sex, they're often confused and upset over it. Sometimes they don't want to feel that way, and will end up denying it to themselves and sheltering their feelings. That includes saying terrible things about homosexuals to make themselves feel better, even though they themselves feel the same way they do. It can be a rough time for anybody to feel like that, and your mind can often be a battleground for your emotions. |

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's the flamboyant homosexuals who'd rather wear rainbow colored clothing while strutting down a crowded street than actually live a normal life with variety.
I know it sounds bigotus, but whenever I see a gay pride parade, I want to punch them in the face. People like them are part of the problem, because they think they're BETTER because they're gay. The whole "We're here, we're queer, get used to it." spiel is really wearing on my nerves, because they give us (being homosexuals) a bad image, and they give people a horrible stereotype to base us off of. People see things like that and they assume all homosexuals are like that, they assume that we're all freaks who wear rainbow clothing, strutting down highways like lunatics because we'd rather be with the same gender.
And since when did we need a parade to celebrate our gay pride? You know how I celebrate by gay pride? By being myself. You don't need to mutate yourself into some blatant avatar for homosexuality in order to live a happy life that way, and some people don't seem to realize that at all. |

I agree with Cherry's post.
There's nothing wrong with wanting equal rights, but acting like you're better than everyone else, referring to straight people as "breeders," (is that really the best insult you can come up with?) and acting as if you have no life or interests outside of your sexual preference is obnoxious, and is not going to make people respect you more. |

I think that homosexuals should just act like other people. I don't really care if you like your own sex or not. They're just people like us, the only reason they have to "embrace" it is because of the way society views homosexuals today. |

I don't despise homosexuals. I'm actually fine with them. But if they act like homosexuality is the greatest thing ever, and are what society views as "gay", I find that really frustrating. Why? Because there's more to life than just being homosexual. Heterosexual people continue on with life normally, so why can't such people do so? |

My ex-girlfriend is now lesbian, and she's one of my best friends. If the hadn't told me, I would still think she's straight.
Homosexuals are people just like us.
Homosexuality is not a choice. It's not a deformity, either. It's like being a lefty, which was considered absolutely demonic and regarded illegal in the Middle Ages (hint hint).
Hating people for their sexual preference is a terrible thing. Anyone who hates homosexuals should just get over themselves, because they never do anything wrong. Don't listen to the stereotype. |

I think it is an interesting and compleeing issue, however sometimes I wonder where the sensitivities are and where they should be.
I don't mean to say that homosexuals aren't being prosecuted, but I wonder if there is such a thing as going overly political correct. Teenagers are and will continue to use "gay" in a derogatory sense, and some may be offended by that, yes.
... I kinda lost my train of though here.
Well, anyway... People call things names. Maybe society will decide it's inappropriate - see the n-word - or maybe things will go on.
I just hope that nobody will get their knickers in a twist in the process and go around being offended.
Little Britain is awesome, BTW. I saw that one skit just yesterday.
That guy was so flamboyant, I bet real gays would be offended. *twich* Shiny plastic-like sailor outfit on a fat guy. |

I agree. And this may seem odd, but the episode of The Office, Gay Witch Hunt, really shows that gay people get offended. Society really needs to learn self control. Almost no one cares about other people, anymore, and that's what's making society slowly become more and more cruel to everyone. More and more people on the streets are mugging, swearing, and being overall rude. No one is going to know respect, or learn the value of money, or become responsible, etc. all because people start to care less and less. Unless we can change it, that's going to be the human race's downfall. Eventually, no one will be responsible enough to take care of their kids well enough, and some people will even die because of it. Then more and more people become irresponsible, and then eventually, there won't be enough people in the world to support eachother.
And on a side note: Cherry, I didn't know you were gay Well, whatever, though. |

Well, I can write a wall o text about this subject, but I fail at writing, so I'll make it simple about my views: A homo is basically a human who has urges towards the same sex.
Nothing more, nothing less.
They cannot choose if they want to be straight or not. And I am fine with their choice. The only time where it disturbs me is they start acting like they are better than th rest. The only other time they bug me is when they try hitting on me, which isn't very likely (I hope...)
If one cannot deal with homosexual people, then how can we deal with someone who isn't tolerating a regular human? |

I choose to respect those who respect themselves.
I will respect any homosexual who respects their culture and themselves. In other words, they aren't acting like the stereotype just because they "have to".
It's the same as respecting any heterosexual person. If they act like an idiot or follow a set stereotype just because they "have to", they aren't going to be respected as a normal human being by society.
Homosexuals are human beings, and they deserve to be treated as such, however, they cannot expect to be treated as regular people if they conform to a stereotype, as that only tells others that "that is how they are". Same with women, blacks, and any group who calls out for rights.
On another note, I will tolerate those who act like every day is a gay pride parade, but I can't help but get annoyed by them. |
