UGO has acquired 1UP.com from Ziff Davis, and rumors are flying that they are killing off EGM and the 1UP Show effective immediately.
the 1UP Show is the best gaming video-podcast ever. EGM was one of the first cross-platform gaming mags, I have huge epic issues going way back to SNES days.
If this is true, this is a very sad day for the gaming community.

This really, really sucks.
I'm really going to miss the magazine, Broken Pixels (Today was supposed to be the start of season 2), Retronauts and the rest of the podcasts. |

I still have an enormous stack of old EGMs dating back to SNES times... why the hell are they killing it off? I still consider it the best vg magazine out there. |

Oh joy, so now all we have are Nintendo Power, OXM, and the Playstation Magazine that I don't remember at all, and those aren't biased at all.

The bolded letters should be a good clue as to waht the name is.
As for the topic at hand, I never really got into gaming magazines in the first place. I usually opened up PlayStation Magazine just to look at the shit they had in the back of the issue, and the captions they slapped on screen captures. |

I am more concerned with the change this will have to 1UP.com, and not so much EGM. EGM had to know this was coming for a while.
As for other magazines:
GamePro and GameInformer are the last multi-platform gaming-only mags in the US. There is also Play, which is gaming + anime + media.
And British mags EDGE and GamesTM are great, but they can be expensive to subscribe in the US. |

Oh... oh God no.
Seriously, this pisses me off. EGM was really the only half-decent American gaming magazine left, and what the hell is going to happen to 1up? Even though I don't agree with them all the time (They have shown great stupidity here and there), 1up is, like, one of the last truly reliable gaming news sites out there; it would be a shame if this causes the site to lose quality.
This is a tragedy. |

I don't remember whether they changed it from PSM to something else or from something else to PSM |

It's totally because EGM and 1up were smart enough to see that a good deal of Wii games sucked. Blame Nintendo D:[/sarcasm]

Most, if not all, of the 40 people laid off were the Podcasts. |
