Meet Yin and Yang...
They're Koi. The white/orange one is Yin. The one with the black spots is Yang. There's a rather interesting story about my visit to the Petsmart I got the two from. I was originally going to get two different koi. As I was holding the bag they were in, I began to notice that they were moving rather violently. They kept bumping the sides of the bag rather hard. I asked the guy who put them in the bag about it, but he didn't think it was something to worry about. When they died before I even got to pay for them was when I found out that he had forgotten to put in the conditioner for the fish. One of those two that died was the only black and gold colored koi they had. At least I didn't ave to pay for those two.
I even got some live plants to go into the tank. You can't see it in the picture, but there is a piece of bamboo in the corner of that tank.
If you want to know their genders, my GUESS is that they're both male.

Nice fish. I used to have four fish in one tank.
One fat one named John (lived about a year though) One color-changing goldfish named Paul (lived a long 4 years) Another goldfish named George (lived for only 2 years) and a spotted fish named Ringo (lived a year and a half) All my fish died from aging.
So yeah, enjoy your new pets.

When I was 4, I had a black goldfish named Toaster. (I was 4.)
He died within 10 minutes of getting in the tank because I was worried he would drown, and put him in an empty bowl.
Poor toaster. |

Not only are they fish... They are ORIENTAL FISH!!! They even have an oriental plant in their tank and have been given oriental names.
Also, these fish are supposed to be able to get pretty big. The info card they had at the store said they grow up to 24". I know someone who had an oscar that got VERY big. The oscar would eat hotdogs! One time a water bug was at the edge of the top of the tank, and the oscar just jumped up and ate it. The store had oscars too, and said they grow up to 10". Now, if all of this is true, my koi will eventually be able to eat all kinds of things that I just toss into the tank.
I like the thought of having super sized fish that can eat hotdogs. *momentarily has a dream of his koi reaching the size of cows, having laser beams attached to their heads, and being used to dispose of James Bond*
Another nice thing about koi is that they are supposedly able to live for 50 years. If I take good enough care of them, I'll end up naturally bald before they die (both of my grandfathers suffered from baldness, so I'm probably going to suffer the same fate). |

Ha, this topic reminds me of the time I had fish. I got a Betta fish, also known as the Siamese fighting fish. It beat up and killed all the fish in the tank, and then kept ramming into its own reflection until it killed itself. Terrible way to go, eh? |
