My computer can't see it right now so can someone tell me what the shortcut is?
Well, its not exactly a short cut, but more like a mini-course. Using a mushroom, you boost onto the mountain to the left of the starting line. Then you drive around the mountain, which apparently takes you out far enough that the game thinks you went around the whole course. When you pass back by the starting line, it counts as a full lap! Then you make another loop around the mountain, until you finish the whole race in like 40 seconds.
Wow, that got to be one of the schweetest glitches of a game. I've known about the other one (not as big) which is near the middle part of the course, but this just amazes me. It can really help reduce one's time, but I probably won't use it. It seems a lot of these courses are filled with glitches. If only, Nintendo made less glitches, then it would make it more fair to those who actually play the course.
I'll try doing this on a vs. course, but I probably won't do this on a time trial.
YOU GUYS IT DOES NOT WORK. I tested it out by myself and No mater HOW MANY TIMES I DID THIS, the lap 2 thing will NOT come up, nothing does, no matter how many times i go around it. I think the glitch is fixed, but it does not work anymore. I did exactly what the world champion did (hell, i did better than him o.o)

I have my Wi-Fi shut off for my Wii though so I still might try it out.

Agree'd. Yesterday I did THE EXAXCT THING that it showed [used a mushroom and stuff] and It didn't even count it as a lap. So to anyone who wishes to challenge me, you will...PHAIL!!!
I pulled it off successfully after a few hundred tries. You have to stay at the very edge of the path, and you actually have to go around four times; the second time, you have to go forward just a little beyond the circular part to get it to register as a lap. You have to do it quick or else the mountain will explode and sank. D:

This. I went around the mountain thing like 8 times, and it still wouldn't work.
Edit: Now that I think about it, maybe it wouldn't work because I wasn't going far up enough to cross the finish line...
You'd think they would test for this stuff.
