A compilation game I'd love to see: The next version of Mario Kart (on whatever Nintendo calls their next console XD), with 50 new tracks, and a Retro Grand Prix mode with EVERY SINGLE TRACK TO EVEN BE IN A MARIO KART GAME!!! That'd be from the original Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Kart DS, and Mario Kart Wii (yes I know I've forgotten a few). That would be the ULTIMATE Mario Kart game! Laughing

Also, a Super Mario Galaxy 3 game with 100 galaxies would also be an epic application of this new technology.

However, these uber games would probably be ridiculously expensive (the most expensive currently-sold Nintendo game is Wii Fit at $90). Shocked

Heck, if I'm understanding this correctly, Nintendo could put EVERY VC game on a single disc! Or at least every single game from one system... Idea

I want this to happen so badly. I hope Nintendo uses this technology wisely.

...Guys, this can be for MORE than just extra content... think of all the new things nintendo can do that they couldn't before! I can see very complex A.I. with this... which would be AMAZING for animal crossing!

I read the title as "Nintendo is looking into pornography storage" for a minute.

Fix'd.

But seriously, why would you read holography as pr0n0gr4phy?
Dunno why that word got 1337'd.

Holographics would mean some sort of 3D Projection-based imagery. But would it really mean a massive amount of space for storage?

Holographic storage =/= Holographic display.
Did you even read any of the other posts?

Holographics can look different when viewed at different angles. That mean you can burn the same disk millions of times.

Right. Look at how Blu-rays work (since it's easier to explain with them than hard drives). They have multiple layers that can be read simultaneously or individually from the bottom of the disc.

With this "holographic" storage, the discs can be read from all the layers on the disc from the bottom, but possibly from the sides and even top as well, meaning that all surfaces are touched inside and out. Maybe not the top so much, because it'll have the label on it.

Think of it as having one sheet of paper to write on (Wii disc), versus a whole 500-sheet package of paper to write on (holographic disc).

Like I said, layers, layers, layers, plus side angles if you REALLY feel like it.

As far as I've heard of it, those discs aren't like a CD-RW, but rather a CD-R: you can write data ONE SINGLE TIME.
