Sonic is all about flow, and always has been. Of course, considering how glitched up Sonic 2 was, I don't exactly SEE how Sonic was ever really a GOOD series in the first place, other than marketing, but I digress.
Unleashed felt very choppy, and while the sense of speed was there, it didn't flow as nicely as the Sonic of old (which didn't flow very nicely in the first place). Werehog segments were also way too long and interfered with progress.
You can like the series, but please, see it for the dying breed it is. One that DESERVES to die and preserve what little dignity it has left.
Honestly, the more I see of the game, the better it's looking. In the first trailer, the swordplay seemed to slow up the gameplay, but now it's looking like you can attack while you're running, which is great.
Secret Rings was great fun, so I have high hopes for this.
EDIT: Also, alternate trailer showing more gameplay:

For the overwhelming majority of gamers, this cycle proves itself correct. Time and time again.
Now, of course, I loved the old Sonic titles. The primary games on the Genesis were some of the greatest platformers ever made, and because of my dear, loving memory of Sonic's glory days, I have always held some hope in my heart for a "revival" of sorts for the series. However, as I now find myself agreeing with Kotaku's description of the trailer, I feel as though my hope has finally gone dry.
Sega either needs to license or sell the franchise to another developer, or put Sonic down for good. Even though the thread starter argues that it is unfair to predict that this game will be no good, again- as I stated earlier- for the overwhelming majority of gamers, the Sonic Cycle proves true every time; based upon the last several years of disappointments, it is only logical to assume that this new game will go the same way.
