There's a difference between bringing politics in to schools and educating children about the government, which is more along the lines of the case the original post brought up.
Every American child needs to have some knowledge about how the American government works, and every American child should at least know who the President is, and what he does. If schools don't teach children basic information such as that because of a fear of "involving them in politics," then our school systems are failing (And by that, I mean that they're failing to a worse degree than we thought.) |

I'm almost 15 now, and I still don't know the difference between Republicans and Democrats...except that republicans like elephants and democrats think donkeys are cool. I've never really cared about politics, and my parents/friends/teachers/etc. have never tried to persuade me otherwise.
Anyways, I think that kids need to learn about politics, but just the basics, like what the president does and stuff. They can learn all of that other crazy government stuff when they're older.

Well if you don't know by now you'll learn it at some point in school. Really, you don't NEED to know until you're older, but it does help. |

As for that quote, it really depends. While I do agree with the republican vision of the economy (Capitalist and free markets and all that shit), the idea of a highly restricted federal government, and the idea of thinking in terms of money before thinking in terms of emotion, I'd say that the republicans have a whole lot of not-so-smart shit goin' on, too. Like the idea of wasting a bunch of money on a meaningless war in Iraq, not supporting stem cell research or limiting the teaching of evolution in school, and their pointless hate towards homosexuals.
I'd say that the main problem is that the Republican Party now consists of a bunch of neo-conservatives and reactionaries, whereas libertarian, classically liberal, or fiscally conservative republicans are in the minority. I suspect that this will change within the next 20 years, though. Neo-conservatism, thankfully, is a dying philosophy, and the Republican Party will probably return to its libertarian roots; in the end, the Republicans will represent the classical liberals, and the Democrats will represent the leftists. |

You mean the amount of his own people that Saddam killed? 200,000
American deaths since the Iraq invasion? 4,261
I'd say we saved a lot more lives than we lost. Sure, it wasn't our country, but Saddam needed to be taken out of power, everyone can agree that Saddam was a horrible person, who put thousands of his own people to death, and that's not including the death tolls from the Iraq Iran war, or his invasion of Kuwait. |
