it says the reveiw was sponsered by sony, not the website is. |

That was indeed a horrible review, and he mentions Sony products way to much. But I doubt Sony had any direct influence on the review. Sony sponsored the whole gaming/dvd area of their site (as in paid to have there ad at the top of each page), not just that one page. The guy is just stupid.
But who looks to Variety for game reviews anyways? |

I laughed my ass off.
Who knows? It could be just some idiot review, sponsored by Sony. Or, Sony could have crafted the thing. Afterall, there is a large amount of praise for Sony titles present in the review.
Oh well. My interest in getting a PS3 just dropped by about 10%. |
