Ignoring them doesn't do anything. Spammers don't have minds in the first place. Their only objective to ruin forums. They don't care if anyone pays attention as long as they get to screw around and do whatever they want. This is what contradicts your theories of just telling them to stop or ignoring them. If you ignore them you are doing what they want, if you don't have power and tell them to stop they don't have to pay attention to you. That's how it works.

I know. but by giving them attention, you draw attention from those who cna fix the problem.

True, but so far Francis is the only one who can do this. Once we get more members, it will be come more apparent one person is not enough.

I've already suggested global mods. with suspension (as opposed to banning) power, to avoid abuse.

We need a trustworthy person that can ban an idiot badge. Or a better idea. Since they want to be banned, don't ban them. They'll keep wanting to be banned but they won't be, and it will TORMENT THEM FOREVER! MUAHAHAHAHA!
Learning how to be evile (not misspelled) half the time really pays off.

Simple. We put them in a permanent sub-ban forum. A forum called the jail forum that they can post in only.

or maybe we find a way to overload their computer with pop-ups, thus destroying it. that'll get them to stop screwing up our forum.

I remember seeing this IE exploit on digg that makes your computer restart itself. We could send the link to the banned users, calling it an un-ban link. Very Happy

I just remembered something evil. Ok, don't actually do this unless you want to shut down. Press the windows key and hit "u" twice. EVIL!

It gives an explination on the site. Gives the direct link, a disguise link, and an explination, from what I remember.
