It's not half-swine. It's less then that, because it's more than 50% human influenza. It's like 26% swine and 14% bird, or something. Tamiflu does nothing against human influenza, or bird flu, so chances are it does almost nothing or nothing at all when it comes to H1N1

Wrong.
Quote: | Oseltamivir (INN) (pronounced /ɒsəlˈtæmɨvɪr/) is an antiviral drug that is used in the treatment and prophylaxis of both Influenzavirus A and Influenzavirus B infection. Like zanamivir, oseltamivir is a neuraminidase inhibitor. It acts as a transition-state analogue inhibitor of influenza neuraminidase, preventing progeny virions from emerging from infected cells.
Oseltamivir was the first orally active neuraminidase inhibitor commercially developed. It is a prodrug, which is hydrolysed hepatically to the active metabolite, the free carboxylate of oseltamivir (GS4071). It was developed by US-based Gilead Sciences and is currently marketed by Hoffmann-La Roche (Roche) under the trade name Tamiflu. In Japan, it is marketed by Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., which is more than 50% owned by Roche. Oseltamivir is generally available by prescription only. |
Quote: | Influenza A virus which causes influenza in birds and some mammals. |
Quote: | Influenza B viruses are only known to infect humans and seals |
This means, that Tamiflu actually should be pretty effective against this virus, since it works pretty well for all of them. |

It treats your symptoms, and drastically shortens the duration of the virus, although it does not directly kill it. It just shortens it. | Yes, it protects you from SWINE flu, but swine flu ≠ H1N1 influenza A. Swine flu was a big thing in the 60's. But that was SWINE flu. This isn't swine flu. It's part bird, part swine, but it's mostly human flu. We don't have anything that can protect people from it, so far.
———————————>:awesome: | Yes, but the H1N1 strain also happens to be no stronger than the regular flu, and really has been made to look like a big deal due to the media's lack of stories.
Besides, if it were half-swine, what are the odds that Tamiflu still works against it? |
