I know I'll need:
    The system
    Live
Wireless adapter (since I can't turn my house upside down, nor buy a mile-long cord)
A game (Probaby Bioshock or something)

Anything I'm forgetting, and any way to make the necessities fit my budget?

Well, anything that isn't the Core/Arcade bundle comes with an ethernet cable, about 10ft long, if it helps.

Games depends on what you like, and I have too many so Idunno how the *crag* I can suggest any to you. >_>'

All the systems are on the first floor of my house and the computers are in the bedrooms on the second. The Wii and PS3 are alright for this, since they have built-in wireless adapters, but I need to succumb to Microsoft's greediness and buy one from them.

rawrskey was suggesting I get a used 360 and get the warranty, but with the newer chipsets I probably won't need one since the RROD was fixed, as I've been told. And I still have to look up what the newer bundles include.

$350 for the Xbox.
$100 for wireless adapter.
I think they give you one free month of Live.

Add about $30 tax if you buy in store and you are already over budget, without a game. Sad

I suggest you wait till E3, and hope for a price drop or bundle announcement... which I guarantee there will be.

Well, you better hope the used one you get isn't old, then. Both of our consoles have finally gone through replacement thanks to that ring...

Needless to say, both were launch consoles, and we were pretty impressed that they lasted more than a year. One died out last summer, and the other about 2 months ago.

Yeah, it does seem like it's almost time for the 360 to go down another $40-50. I'd expect the PS3 to follow soon after, obviously.

I can get the adapter used, maybe for like $60. And I might be able to get my stepsister to chip in, though my brother won't help because he actually needs money now for gas and icky adult stuff.

I bet Microsoft will announce a larger hard drive and a bundled game, but no price drop. As long as they are under the base PS3 price, they won't go any lower. In an ideal world, they would announce a brand new model that doesn't overheat and has wireless built-in, but I have given up hope for that.

The PS3 has hit as low as it will go. $399 really is the ideal price point for it, especially if they were to bundle a game with the 40GB. The $499 MGS4 80GB bundle is selling like crazy.

How much is the used warranty for systems, especially since the RROD is to be feared? rawr says a used 360 is $200, but does it come with the cables, controller, etc?

It comes with the cables, no doubt. I'm pretty sure it comes with AT LEAST a wired controller.

As for games, you should definitely get Shadowrun. It's 15 dollars, so it's really within the budget. It's xbox live only though, so it's useless unless you have your free month.

If I get it now it's :
$200 + Warranty for the system
$100 or less for an adapter
$50 for a year of Live, though I may just stick with the free month
    $20 for Live points
$15 for Shadowrun, since I don't have much left for games
Highest grand total is $385 + warranty and tax. Tax is $30, so $415 + warranty. Maybe I can find a used game.

Sure, you're forgetting, The Orange Box, along with Halo 3, Mass Effect, Gears of War, (Just wait for 2) and all that crap. And I don't care if you already have the orange box on the PS3, because no one will be able to have hot voice cha-I MEAN NO ONE HERE WILL BE ABLE TO PLAY WITH YOU.

Oh yes, and of course get warranty. My God, the Xbox 360 LOVES to hate you.

Once, I glitched the Xbox (not on purpose) to think I was gold. It was crazy, because I was silver and I could play online. <3

If I get a used game, probably $30 at most, my total comes to $445 + warranty, already added in tax.

I think I can do this. :D
