I posted this ages ago when commenting on another suggestion, but I reckon it deserves its own topic.
Basicly, Francis could set up 2-4 usergroups and give each team a logo. People can then join the usergroups and start battling the other usergroups. At the end of each day/week/month the leading team is decided by the percentage of living members - not the number of living members, as that could be unbalanced due to team sizes. When the winning team is chosen a flag appears on the banner, next to tippi, with the winning team's logo on it, and will remain there until another one of the teams defeats them.
I reckon this could encourage more item usage, as well as providing another fun activity for the site.
