It looked horrible. I imagine the design meeting went like this:
Hey, wouldnt it be cool if you could swing the remote like a hammer? Yeah! And you could hit generic enemy after generic enemy! Oh, and you could be in an open city! Except how would we render a large city with people and cars and stuff? Oh yeah, that is totally not possible. Ok, well, what else would our H.A.M.M.E.R. guy do? Um... Oh hey, why don't we make a new Mario game instead? Oh yeah... I got it.. Mario in SPACE!

The rest is history
Well, I never really saw much of it, so you could be right.
But the graphics looked very nice. Great lighting as well.
I agree with Francis, It looked very bad(1) and the swinging the hammer would get repetive and boring.(2)
1. Graphically, it looked amazing. Also, what do you expect? It was a demo level.
2. Then why isn't swinging the sword in Twilight Princess boring? And I'm SURE different weapons/add-ons would be available.
You just sayed it Twilight princess didnt get boring and repetive beacause It had a vareity of weapons. H.A.M.M.E.R Is just about some dude with a... Hammer(Its called H.A.M.M.E.R not W.E.A.P.O.N.S) and It was a dull graphic demo game, If people see that It looks that bad they wont even want to try the finished game
