I'm in love with this movie.

Following a powerful conservative group coming to power, a fascist regime rules the world (Save for the United States, who although is the sole nation not under the regime, is suffering from poverty and disease.) and the main character, a man wearing a mask, who calls himself "V", fights against it. "Terrorist"? "Freedom Fighter"? Or just a psycho? Judging by the fact that the government was behind "terrorist attacks" against its own people as well as holocausts, the decision is far from simple to think about.

One of the more moving parts is where it shows how the government took power across the world. How after right-wing groups took control of the government, absolute govrnment power took hold, and all of those who didn't fit the conservatives' desires, such as comedians who make fun of the government, gays, lesbians, and many intellectuals who protested the way the economy was run, were all taken from their homes, and "black-bagged". Never to be seen again.

The other main character finds herself in such a "black-listed" prison, and interrogated daily, as well as put under horrifying conditions. She continues to cling to her will to live by reading the autobiography of another prisoner, written on toilet paper and transported to her through a rat-hole. (Left by the government purposely to make the conditions poorer.) However, in the end, the prison is not what it seems. The captive was more fortunate than she thought. I won't ruin any specifics.

One of the biggest points of the story is that the corrupt use fear, intimidation, patriotism, and religion to control and oppress people. When people stand up to the government's mistakes, they are punished, branded as "terrorists" or "unpatriotic", and in the case of the fascist government in this movie, killed. That's only part of the story, though. It gives insight into many things.

It's a wonderful movie, in my opinion.

In the comics, "V" was actually insane, and the government was the sole thing keeping many nations together after a nuclear war.
