Arrrrghaafrg. I don't know why I'm forcing myself to sit through this book, I really don't. I mean, it's decent, I suppose, as far as mindless entertainment goes--but jeez, if the Twilight series (excuse me, Saga) wasn't completely preposterous before, it sure as hell is now. XD;

Spoilers for anyone who cares.

-WTFRILLLGHJ? Excuse me; how in the hell does a vampire go about knocking you up? o_e

-Who names their kid Renesmee? Seriously. Wut.

-Bella is teetering on the brink of complete Mary Sue-dom. More than she already was. Fffff.

-And there goes Jacob. I used to like him, before he started moping after Precious Bella. And went emo and stuff.

-Come to think of it, I can't bring myself to root for Edward, either. He's like a cardboard cut-out someone painted "OMG VAMPYUR" all over. No character whatsoever.

-So yeah, my favorite character is Alice now. Only one I can even try to stomach.

Why do people love this series so... ?

It's popular because it's a romance novel, but with VAMPIRES. Gothy teenage girls eat that shit up.

Blech.

Meh, Edward's got no character, though. He's just there to be a shiny marble piece of sex. =\

And yeah. Everything's better with vampires, or so I've been told by my teenage-girl-friends. .-.;

Okay. Rant time.

I. *crag*. HATE. Twilight.

Vampires are NOT sexy, they're pale-skinned parasitic creatures that live off the blood of human beings and mutate them into their own species. Not sexy. At all.

Mary Sues suck ass. Self-insertion is fine if written well, but LOOK AT BELLA AND TELL ME THAT'S NOT TOTAL WISH-FULFILMENT. Most people don't make a Mary Sue FANFICTION more than once. Most people only put it on Fanfiction.net, then get a clue when they're flamed to death, and learn what to do. BUT NOOO, STEPHENIE MEYER HAD TO TAKE IT A *crag* TWELVE STEPS FURTHER, HUH?

Edward Cullen is NOT cool. He has the personality of A TWO BY FOUR. In fact, I'm pretty sure they took a *crag* TWO BY FOUR, PAINTED IT WHITE, PASTED FALSE TEETH ONTO IT AND A SHITLOAD OF BODY GLITTER. He is the most *crag* STEREOTYPICAL ROMANCE VAMPIRE YOU WILL EVER SEE. He is even worse than most because the author didn't even take the time to give him a *crag* brain of his own.

And, LOVE TRIANGLES. Stereotypical ones at that. Ughhh. I don't know much about this part, but all I know is it's probably soulless like the rest of the book, so Ms. Meyer could live out her wild fantasies.

Making the main characters have children? I'm not even going to get into that shit.

Abstract's post pretty much sums up my feelings on Twilight.

Another thing that bugs me about it is that the whole thing's written in first-person, to make it easier for the lonely mallgoth reading it to imagine that SHE is the beautiful, perfect girl having glittery vampire sex. As if the wish-fulfillment wasn't blatant enough.

People are calling this series the next Harry Potter. I'm not a huge fan of that either, but I admit that it's well-written. Twilight is... not.

Amen, Abstract. I'll admit the series is decent for what it is--brainless teenage fluff. Still enough to make me cringe, though.

Yeah... Meyer's even said that readers were supposed to be able to step into Bella's shoes. Here's a decent article I found on the subject.
