I'm confident that many of you are aware of how things are currently. You have two boards, Role-Play and the more active Role-Play Off-Topic.
RPOT has become a sort of unique "game" in that everyone posts seperate threads for different locations, and users may wander around taking part in the areas they enjoy. Even serious plots are working successfully in this way.
So I'm beginning to wonder if "Role-Play" should be a traditional single-thread RP board, and RPOT should be its own "thing", an ongoing "MMO" of sorts containing many threads. That's essentially what it is, and many feel that it would be a pity to destroy it.
In short, how would you feel about simply having "Role-Play" be a traditional single-thread-only Role-Playing section, and "RPOT" be renamed to something else, and used as the new type of Role-Playing involving multiple threads in one ongoing story/world that it has become?
That leaves you to still be able to play the "Game/Community of RPOT", but if you want your own thread that has nothing to do with the "RPOT world", then "Role-Play" could be the section for it. In the end you would have a section for individual Role-Playing threads with one thread per world/story, and a section in which the threads are all in one world and can be accessed by characters in the world. (What RPOT is currently.)
On a final note, you'll notice that plots, whether "serious" or "light-hearted", would work in both boards. Therefore, the boards would simply be different types, rather than " one serious and one random". The problem of a torrent of "Nooby trash threads" would not exist in "Role-Play", because as I said you would have on thread per story/world.

That's essentially what RP and RPOT are right now. |

That's correct. However, if this is pointed out, stressed, and enforced with a serious hand, it might fix problems.
I believe that many people are viewing the two as "Serious versus Random" opposed to "One world many threads versus One thread Per world".
People should be informed that it is really type of Role-Playing that seperates the two boards, rather than "intellectual level" or "plot-depth".
I know that the original intention for RPOT was, as its name said, "Off-Topic". But I think that with the size of the role-playing base we have in this forum right now, there's really no reason to seperate the forums based on depth yet. Unless you would want to see four forums, a serious RPOT, a non-serious RPOT, a serious RP, and a non-serious RP. That would be too much of a stretch for a forum of this size. As I said above, RPOT would simply be given a new name.
Getting back to what I was talking about first, the two types, I know that coincidentally you will likely see more users in RPOT, because the world already exists there, and is active and thriving. Users who do not wish to have to create their own entire world/story and rather a seperate part of an already-existing story have an easier time in RPOT. That's why you would probably still see more users there. But all of this information being shared wouldn't hurt, in my opinion. |
