No Future

You always thought that Mario and Luigi would handle any threat, any evil, any danger.
You thought they were invincible.
But this time, you were wrong. We were all wrong.
Because somewhere, somehow, someone has tampered with time and erased Mario and Luigi from history.

Due to the past being changed, the future has changed too-and taken a turn for the worse. Bowser eventually took over the entire Kingdom after he captured the Princess, because there was nobody there to save her and take on Bowser.
The Koopa King rules the land with an iron fist, using the vast armies at his command to stamp out any uprising and conquer neighbouring kingdoms. Because there are no heroes, the roles of those that came after are drastically altered.
Rebellion has sparked among those who fight for a free world. Villains and heroes are brought together in their desire for freedom, to change life as we know it now back to life as we knew it then, if it's at all possible.
There aren't any 'good guys' or 'bad guys'. You fight for freedom, or you fight to quell rebellion in a so-called utopian society. For Koopas, life is good. You live like 'kings', in a sense, rewarded with rich food and incredible luxuries.
For any others, you live a harsh existence. The mortality rate is high, and you cannot find proper materials or even proper food. You're forced to survive on whatever you can scrabble from the land while others dine richly every night.

If you're lucky, you will be forced to mine or grow crops for King Bowser and his forces.
However, if you're unlucky, you'll be arrested and sent to jail for no other reason than being deemed a threat. Magic users are few now, as most have been imprisoned in the castle dungeons. Bowser is a paranoid king, and in his eyes all magic is dangerous-other than the magic used by his wizards, of course.
Death is a long-awaited release from a cruel world, and the Underwhere and Overthere are the only places where you can gain solace-if you die.
With such powerful mages and armies at his command, attacking the King up front is futile and suicidal. The Mushroom Kingdom-now renamed the Koopa Kingdom in honor of its conqueror-was practically the hub of the land, and from there it can only get worse...or so we thought.

When there's a will, there's a way.
And the rebels certainly have the will, but can they successfully overthrow the Koopa King?
Perhaps....perhaps not.
You'll just have to see. Supplies and materials, when they can be obtained-illegally or legally-are essential, and the rebels are still stocking up.
So, who are you? Are you supporting Bowser's so-called utopia, or are you rebelling against it?
Whatever side you choose, there will be casualties.
The game has begun.

Now, there aren't any chosen heroes to save us.
We'll have to save ourselves.

No Future: Factions

King Bowser's Armies
You're the mindless legions of troops that make up the King's forces. You march and kill at his command, terrifying all and sundry in your relentless, albeit controlled, rampage. You seize anything of value and take it back to the castle, where it will be locked up. You also seize potential threats to Bowser's rule and take them hostage, then sling them in the dungeons. Efficiently organised and with powerful mages to back you up, you are, to all intents and purposes, the ultimate fighting force.

Time Department
You're working around the clock to try and find a way-or an artifact-to fix the past. You might succeed. You might not. But either way, you have to keep hoping...right? You support the rebellion, and rightly so-you help them by creating basic time-based weaponry for them to use, and they supply you with the parts you need, and then some.

Rebel Forces
You're the ragtag forces that fight to lift Bowser's tyranny. You are equipped with whatever your forces have brought to the party-it may include offensive, defensive and practical magic or technology, advanced or otherwise...among other things. You, however, have the advantage of stealth and surprise-you can strike quickly and flee before they know what's happening. Among you, you have those that are uniquely equipped to handle different and varied situations-thus, you can handle change more quickly.

Koopas
....Do I really need to explain this one? You're a koopa and are entitled to do anything you want to do under King Bowser's law.
Watch your step, though....

Civilians
You're just minding your own business and trying to keep yourself and possibly your family fed and reasonably healthy. You'd prefer to have nothing to do with the impending battle, although if your fighting spirit is roused you might run off to join the rebels...

Rules:

1. No godmodding.

2. You can play as any Mario character you want! But take into consideration their roles will have changed in the absence of Mario and Luigi...for example, if your chosen character's game was ended by Mario? They'll be alive and reasonably well considering the circumstances.

3. Be nice.

4. Keep OOC out of IC, please.

5. OCs are allowed, but with certain limitations. For example, the only species of OC allowed in the army are Koopa OCs. Although, even IF you're a Koopa, you don't necessarily have to confine yourself to the Koopa-only factions....

6. Four characters max. No more.

7. First come, first served. Unless you're really attached to the character, that is-PM me if there are any problems.

8. Have fun!

Important Plot Points:

* The Shadow Queen is still locked away. Princess Peach is never allowed out of the castle, and so she wouldn't have traveled to Rogueport...therefore, the Thousand Year Door's storyline would not have started. However, the box is still somewhere, waiting to be discovered.....
If you want to play as the Shadow Queen, you can create 'puppets' to speak through-but you cannot directly manifest yourself.

* The Dark and Light Prognosticus, as well as other powerful magical artifacts, were seized at the beginning of Bowser's reign. Although the events of Super Paper Mario still occurred in a way, and Blumiere and Timpani are still in another world altogether, the temporal disturbances have rearranged themselves into a different future.
This essentially means a time paradox, if Blumiere and Timpani come back, because they'll be meeting themselves-as Bleck and Tippi!

* Any villains who got their game ended by Mario and/or Luigi are now alive.

Appearance: Nino is the Black Yoshi.
Personality: Nino is a feisty, courageous child, eager to help out the rebel forces in any way possible. He's somewhat cocky, but he's got a good heart, and will always stand by his friends.
Backstory: Nino was hatched at the Glitz Pit, taken in by a veteran fighter who rescued him from becoming food at the Hot Dog Stand. He was hidden away and trained in secret, until he was old enough to join the rebels in their fight against Bowser. ))

Faction: Neither

Appearance: See avatar.
Personality: Wart is a childish ruler, willing to take any risks to get his way.
Backstory: Wart is the figment of Mario's dreams, however, since Mario no longer exists, Wart was able to escape from Subcon. He now commands an army of Ninjis and Shy Guys, waiting for his chance to seize the throne from Bowser...

Backstory: This mouse from Dry Dry Outpost knows the secret of Dry Dry Ruins. However, he's very difficult to find, as he doesn't let himself go out in public undisguised.

Name: Larry Koopa
Age: 14
Faction: Koopas
Gender: Male
Appearance: Avatar
Personality: Larry is one of Bowser's children, and is the second-youngest of them. He is quiet and shy, but unlike his counterpart in the timeline the Mario Bros existed, he is not malicious or sneaky. However, he still can fight, and does enjoy sports. His gardening and nature motif has been replaced by one of nuclear research.
Backstory: Larry was born as one of Bowser's youngest kids. Since the Mario Brothers didn't exist, instead of being assigned a land to rule, Larry was kept close to Bowser. At age 8, Larry soon started to use his power for research, but was amazed when he first found Nuclearadium, a type of radioactive crystal, in the wastes outside of Bowser's Castle. Being amazed by it's features, he would begin to research on Nuclearadium.
Territory:Larry does not own any large lands, but he does own the Ultra Nucleon Base, a faulty, run-down nuclear power factory near the Dark Land Forest, and the Lead Dam, a cross between a Hydroelectric dam and a warehouse right outside the west part of Bowser's Castle.

"Mama! Mama!"
Nino froze mid-step in the cold mud, outside the barbed-wire fences that surrounded the lands of the castle. Luckily, there were a few errant bushes big enough to hide him, and one was only a few steps away.
He quickly slid behind it.
"Mama! Mama!"
Nino cautiously peeped out from behind cover, now holding an egg in his hands, and breathed a sigh of relief. Only a doll, hanging on the wire high above, buffeted to and fro by the errant winds, made any sound. The breezes swung it, yanking on the cord that held it there and looking for all the world like a tiny body dangling in the hangman's noose.
Its automated voice box shrieked again.
"Mama! Mama!"
There was the sound of gunfire and the doll was suddenly torn into bits by a hail of bullets. Nino gasped and withdrew his head, curling up in a ball.
"Oh no..."
The sound of heavy footsteps on stone were heard, and the iron gates were opening. If he didn't move, they would surely find him here.
But did he dare?

"These people are getting more and more desperate every day. Did they expect some sort of child's doll would distract the elite forces of King Dad's castle?."

Some sort of green, glowing gemstone was dropped onto the cracked stone road. "Whoops."

The Koopa in question, Prince Larry, reached down to take it, and he placed it into a pocket on his black trenchcoat. Miraculously, he did not spot Nino amongst the unhealthy bushes in the uncomfortable mud, for he was more concentrated on his glowing crystal. He scanned the area behind him encase anybody snuck past he and the guards. The Koopa Troop Patrols would weed out the rest.

Moustafa snuck up to the yoshi child and whispered to him.

"Nino, it's not safe here being so close to castle like this. You didn't even bring anyone with you."

[Spiny]

((Name:Spiny

Age:14 in reptilian years. Though he's been around alot longer, he's never stated his age in terms of human years.

Faction:King Bowser's Armies

Gender:Male

Appearence:He is a Spikey, a bipedal form of Spiny.
He wears white gloves with yellow shoes. His face is hidden due to his head being stuck in his shell. His shell is red with ivory spikes, and a matching shell rim.
Spiny's underside is peach colored, like the underside of most Koopa Shells.
His eyes glow a dark green that pierces the darkness of his shell.
His size is about a head shorter than a normal Koopa.

Personality:If Mario and Luigi were still in existance, he would've seen what his King was truely doing, and developed into a kind, but fairly shy little guy.
However, this is not the case.
He is blindly loyal to Bowser's cause, and taking no interest in the Rebel's fight other than to help crush their "pathetic" cause.
He has a fairly cold demeanor about him, and rarely talks unless spoken to. His attitude toward pretty much the entire army save Bowser is disrespect.

Backstory:He was originally born before Bowser's reign started to flourish.
His parents died in a landslide caused by the fighting during one of the Koopa King's attacks, but he blames the Rebels after seeing their weapons nearby. Since then he's become a brooding little ball of spiked scorn, and joined the ranks of Bowser's army.
He was well known for his resourcefulness and speed in battle, but what really got him noticed were his tendancies to curl up and jump into the fray, becoming a living buzzsaw. Spiny was eventually appointed second in command of the air units.

Nino tugged on Moustafa's cape, not daring to speak, and nodded towards the Koopaling standing outside the gate, inspecting a glowing green stone, as well as the various groups of Koopas standing by for orders.
The Yoshi crossed his fingers and pushed the egg forcibly away from him. It was a risky move, as it could potentially give away his position, but it was a risk he was willing to take.
The egg exploded with a crack and a burst of fireworks some way downhill and Nino took off at a run in the opposite direction, his dirty colouring helping to hide him among the mud and stunted bushes.

There were Statues in the shape of a ghost all over the place. A hidden portal near each one would only open for those who are part of the Rebels. Those who entered would find three ghosts running the place, working on a way to fix the past. If brought materials, they would craft weapons, gadgets, armor, and artifacts of various kinds for the Rebels to use.

When the egg opened sending a crack of light and noise, Larry yelped, jumping in shock. "Rebels! They're here! Find them!" Larry shouted, pointing his left hand towards the dark, muddy fields just in front of the castle. The Koopa Troop guards ran and split out into the dying plantlife, to stomp out any would be intruders. Fortunately for Moustafa and Nino, they would be out of danger from the Koopa guards and the Koopaling if they got out of the bushes.

"I'll be organizing a meeting very soon, so I'll be unavailable for giving your orders for a short period of time. Have fun with the rebels." Larry laughed. The Koopaling opened the gargantuan front doors of the castle, and they closed behind him.
