I've been wanting to have a PS3. Yesterday, my parents called me asking about one they were about to buy. But it stated that it would NOT work with PS2 games. So, are all PS3s no longer backwards compatible?

The new 80GB are NOT, but if I'm correct, the old 60GB were. You'd have to buy it used, though.

The old 60 gig models were 100% backwards compatible, but the more recent ones are only backwards compatible with select games (cuz Sony got cheap). Most of the games you own will probably work.

I don't have to worry about that problem, because my PS2 works just fine for playing PS2 games.

20 gb ones are backwards, so are 60, the metal gear solid 4 special addition one is not.

40's and 80's aren't.

the 160 gb motostorm pack isn't as well.

If you want any new PS1 games, Sony wants you to buy them from the PlayStation Network Store. I have a lot of mine in the physical disc form.

Actually, I think in the PlayStation Store somewhere, there is a patch so you can play PS2 games on the newer PS3's.

Really? If so, would you mind showing a picture? Since my sister's begging me to get a Wii because "PS3's have bad games and we can't play our old games anymore"(according to her. We have a fat PS2.)

Keep the PS2 then, and you can play your PS2/PS1 games still. Neutral

Get her the Wii, and keep the PS2 by yourself. Although Wii is much much better than any Playstation... But, suit yourself.
