EDIT: On hiatus for a long time. I didn't put nearly enough thought into this. This started out as me dicking around in RMVX in an attempt to learn the program and eventually evolved into something big, but as such, it totally skipped the conceptual stage and went RIGHT into development. It's just too ambitious for its own good. I'll be starting from scratch on another project, but I'll be doing a lot of work on that before I even open up VX. I might come back to Oceanus in the far future since I still like the concept, but that won't be for a good while.
Oceanus' main site on RMN, complete with blog
Oceanus is a whimsical, tongue-in-cheek RPG made in VX. It's my first game, so don't expect TOO much, but I'm putting a fair amount of effort into this.
Story The story follows a group of sellswords called the Adventurer's Guild, and the adventures of a few of its members. The Guild, as most call it, has branches reaching all over Oceanus, a realm made up of the Great Ocean and the numerous islands and archipelagos that dot its waves. On an excavation to the Kantus Mountains, a young guild member named Emmet witnesses a ritual that will change his life forever.
Gameplay The gameplay will focus mostly on missions called contracts- services offered by the Guild that range from exorcising vicious bloodthirsty demons to assisting in the baking of the perfect cupcake. There's a simple class select system in place- only one character at a time may be used, and they have different class choices that teach different skills, confer different bonuses, and branch out to different classes. Most missions include temporary helpers, and some helpers may be hired to come along on certain missions.
Screenshots Here are a few unflattering screenshots. I'll post more later.
Meet Shawn.
The Training Manual. When you level up, you get Move Points to spend on new techniques.
There are no inns, just these things. They're also free.
The first contract.
The sort-of-ugly world map. Every archipelago has its own map; there's no master world map.
Dialog choices. The more of a prick you are, the more opportunities you'll have to be an even bigger prick.

Hm, looks pretty decent do far. Particularly the dialogue choices (and the shadowy person thing in the last image. wtf.).
Can't wait for the demo! |

That's a monster. There are no random encounters; all battles are engaged by touching one of those things. |

You either download it and buy an activation code, or buy a boxed copy. There's a 30-day free trial on XP and VX; anything earlier than that isn't availabe anywhere and has to be pirated. |

Yeah. Events with the Event Touch trigger and Battle Processing command. |

I'm actually thinking of using event check trigger for when I do it
(this program does sound similar to my RPG maker, it won't be such a steep learning curve) |

Try VX. I don't see a game made in RM1 getting much exposure. |

I don't even know how to get an RM1 made game onto my computer so I'm likely going to buy VX
I was basically just afraid that'd it'd be readically different and I'd have to re learn everything |

Update. The Class Select is replaced by the Training Manual. When you level up, you get Move Points, which you can spend on new Moves to use in battle. You can only have a certain number of moves from each Level (shown above the icon). They won't all be question marks; that's just temporary as I've only added the first three of Emmet's skills.
