The New Year's celebration was pretty schweet. Huge countdown clock and then fireworks. Did they do that in all the other Animal Crossings?

I noticed that the fireworks shine through the windows in buildings. For example, in the Museum, light coming through the stained glass windows shone in different colors.

What happens if you never leave the screen? Does the clock disappear?
