Continuing the string of "Uncle Cid's Best," we're going to take a look at what Uncle Cid deems the best FF villains ever. Note: This list is not limited to primary antagonists; secondary villains that play important roles in the plot are included, as well.
5. Seymour Guado from FFX- Seymour Guado is a guy who sees himself as something special. After all, how can being an undead summoner who wants to bring about the destruction of all life not qualify as being special? Behind his sophisticated disposition lies a murderous, dastardly personality that will stop it nothing to achieve what he wants.
4. Sephiroth from FFVII- Few villains are as complicated as Sephiroth. For one, he really isn't alive, in the human sense. He's a genetically modified super-soldier who lost his physical form before the game by being thrown over the ledge of a mako reactor in to the lifestream below. Due to carrying the blood of an evil alien monster, he could not be absorbed by the Lifestream and become part of the planet's spirit; therefore, he gets things done by controlling a soldier-wannabe known as Cloud and sending out body parts of the evil alien Jenova to do his bidding. This may not make very much sense by describing it alone, but that's what makes Sephiroth so interesting and complex; you have to play the game and pay attention to the plot to know why he's far more than a simple "pretty boy" villain.
3. Seifer Almasy from FFVIII- The arrogant rival of FFVIII's protagonist. Due to his competitive nature, Seifer always had a tendency to mock the hero's quiet, introverted nature and prove himself as the better fighter. This arrogance and desire to prove himself eventually drove himself in to the employment of an evil sorceress who wanted to uncover an ancient artifact that could compress time in to a singularity. Talk about insecurity.
2. Kefka Palazzo from FFVI- Once a powerful general of a mighty empire, the technological implants that he carried from his earlier days eventually drove him to insanity. He began to wear make-up and play with dolls, but due to the Emperor's sympathy, he was able to maintain the relatively high position of Court Mage. Perhaps the Emperor should have thought twice about letting this maddening individual retain a level of power. Kefka Palazzo may not have the most complex motivations, but he makes up for this in terms of personality. A natural crowd-pleaser, he follows in the footsteps of other famous clowns with sadistic senses of humor, such as the Joker.
1. Hojo from FFVII- Where to begin, where to begin. Hojo is a man with a passion: a passion for SCIENCE! Unfortunately, he's a little too passionate. He goes out of his way to test his theories and complete his research; he attempted to force a young woman in to beastiality, murdered his superior for access to a valuable "specimen" (Which happened to be his superior's daughter), and even injected his unborn son with the genes of an excavated being imprisoned in Mako, creating one of the most terrible monsters the world has ever known: Sephiroth. His desire for knowledge continued to drive him to extremes: even assisting his son's plan for bringing on the apocalypse. Hojo may not be the most well-known villain in the franchise, but he's probably the most unethical, despicable one in the series; and that is why Uncle Cid names him the best FF villain ever.

Not a bad list at all. I agree with you on all of those, except Seifer (Final Fantasy VIII is one of my least favorite Final Fantasies; it bored me out of my skull and I couldn't care about the characters much). I'd think Kuja has a top place, because he is also very interesting. For me he contends closely with Sephiroth. |

Hojo is the worst villian ever made by man. His stupid voice is just incredibly stupid and well as his selfminded attitude. Sephiroth can kill him anyday. |

Why?

FFVII had no voice-overs. His self-minded attitude is what made him so evil, causing him to commit sickening acts that most other FF villains haven't. All in the pursuit of SCIENCE, of course.

That doesn't make him any more evil. |

What, no Chaos?
Chaos was the first villan in the series, and atfirst, looked like just another pitiful first boss in the form of Garland. However, as the plot moved on, his true intention became known. He was reborn as the King of Fiends, and created a time paradox that would make him immortal, and incorperated THE LIGHT WARRIORS THEMSELVES into the plan before being defeated. He didn't even NEED to control the heros to put this into action, just manipulate the results of their actions. "Even as you die, over and over, I shall always return! Return to this endless circle that I have created!" |

Hojo is probably the most forgettable villain for M'aiq ever.
Partly because M'aiq forgot he even existed until this topic. Now he remembers is suntan lotion and a lame mutant boss battle that wasn't anywhere near as interesting as Disc 1 and Disc 3's final fights. |

That doesn't make him any more evil. | Ever played Crisis Core? Anyways, Sephiroth is till pretty damn evil. He really hardly doesn't care about anything. And like Maiq said, Hojo is too forgettable. A villian who can actually kickass should have been #1. |

Never got far enough in the game to see him. Plus, I don't consider Crisis Core an "FF;" more of a spin-off. The roman-numeral titles are the main games in the series.

I agree, but he gets it from his dad.
Quote: | And like Maiq said, Hojo is too forgettable. |
That's mainly because he doesn't appear often. He's like Zemus, Necron, or Ultimecia; they aren't seen throughout the game, but when they are seen, you can tell that they're "truly" e_Vile.
Except for the whole beach thing; FF may be all serial most of the time, but the games are known for humor to pop up in weird spots.

That depends, really. I don't see why a villain should be physically powerful/in-your-face to be awesome; true evil can be found in all places. |
